Taylor Sutherland and Jake Rennie scored the goals to secure a 2-1 win over a strong Livingston team in the Reserve League Cup
This was the first post lockdown Reserve match, the last being the home match played at New Central Park against Hearts on 9th March 2020. Livingston proved testing opponents against a Pars eleven that included five of the first team regulars - Aaron Comrie, Chris Hamilton, Joe Chalmers, Craig Wighton and Lewis McCann.
It was McCann who created the early chances with a seventh minute shot turned behind for a corner, a 16th minute effort blocked and a cross next minute that just evaded Wighton and Hamilton successfully connected but was blocked.
Livi’s best chance had come from 45 yards when Isma Goncalves won the ball in midfield and attempted a lob that dropped just over the crossbar.
The opening goal was not far off however as the visitors pressure paid off in 21 minutes. A long ball up the right was perfect for Taylor SUTHERLAND who took the direct route from the right getting behind the home defences to slot the ball past Jack Hamilton, the Livi keeper, 0-1.
Dunfermline had chances to increase their advantage with Wighton teeing up McCann for a left footed effort in 33rd minute that he sent wide. Andrew Tod had the ball in the net three minutes later from a Sutherland cross but was adjudged to be offside.
McCann ensured the half time lead with a headed clearance from a free kick right on the interval.
Half time: Livingston 0 Dunfermline 1
First incident of note in the second period was a yellow card shown to Chris Hamilton after just eight minutes for a foul on Phillip Cancar. Livingston scored an equaliser on the hour when Bruce Anderson latched on to a long ball from Fitzwater and after picking out GONCALVES on the right set up his team mate for a great finish from an acute angle past Max Little at the near post. 1-1
The Fifers made substitutions with firstly 17 year old Michael Beagley and 16 year old Liam Hoggan replacing Joe Chalmers and Aaron Comrie and then with nineteen minutes remaining Jake Rennie, another 17 year old, coming on for Craig Wighton. That transpired to be a master stroke by coach Greg Shields as RENNIE scored within a minute as he converted a low ball in from the right with a low shot from close range. 1-2
Livi did counter and attempted to find an equaliser. Little punched away a dangerous ball from the right. In 79 minutes Goncalves set up Andrew Shinnie but he pulled his shot wide from 18 yards out. Four minutes later Jackson Longridge was able to send in a ball from the left that Stephen Kelly met but having driven into the Pars box fired over the crossbar.
As time was running out Miller Fenton headed clear from a 90th minute Livi corner but Dunfermline saw the match out to secure a handsome victory.
