Reserves v Dundee United
Tuesday, 5th Nov 2019SPFL Reserve League: Miller Fenton (o.g. 39) 0-1:
DUNFERMLINE RESERVES 0 DUNDEE UNITED RESERVES 1
Gabby McGill kicked off this Reserve League match played one bright Autumn sunshine. He was one of three first team squad players in the Dunfermline line up, Stuart Morrison and Joe Thomson being the other two.
Dundee United’s Glass sent a seventh minute free kick wide right but the Pars came closer from their one three minutes later. Quinn Coulson earned the setpiece that Miller Fenton delivered to McGill’s head but his effort went over the crossbar.
McGill has another good chance in 17 minutes when he won the race against keeper Fraser Currid to the ball on the right side of the United box but Ross Graham swept away the danger.
The visitors then produced a string of opportunities that took them much closer to scoring. A Watson effort on 22 minutes went wide, two minutes later Graham headed wide when on the end of a free kick 28 yards out and Swinton pulled off a good save from a Declan Glass free kick, rather harshly awarded against Jordan, on the edge of the box.
The Fifers best chance this far came in 32 minutes after strong play from Fenton whose cross just evaded a Sawers in front of goal.
There was some pretty Pars interchanges in the United half before Sawers was played in on the right side to cut back for to McGill but his well connected shot was blocked.
Disaster struck however six minutes from the break when FENTON attempting to clear a Chris Mochrie cross on from the left was turned past his keeper. 0-1
There had been a lot of energy shown by both sides but not enough in the final third.

United made one change for the second half Lewis Fraser coming on for Mark Connolly, Lewis Neilson dropping back into central defence. There was an early danger created by a Matty Bowman cross but Neilson rose to clear.
The crossbar kept out a long range effort from the visitors before Greg Shields introduced two subs, Josh Robertson and Kieran Mitchell replacing Gregor Jordan and Gabby McGill on the hour mark.
Dunfermline tried hard to find the equaliser with Coulson through on goal but he didn’t get a good connection and the keeper saved. In 64 minutes good control from Sawers creating himself a good opportunity but when he released his on target shot Graham slid in to bravely block the shot.
At the other end Glass was able to turn in the Pars box and shoot but he was wide left. In 67 minutes Morrison was forward to attack a Thomson corner sent over from the left but the keeper won the race and fisted the ball away.
Left back Alassan Jones collected a yellow card for preventing the progress of Mitchell down the right but when Bowman’s free kick was played into the box again Morrison could get close enough to make it count.
Graham did reach a 78th minute United corner but directed his header wide left. Mitchell then had no joy from an overhead kick in front of goal after Thomson had headed down a Sawers cross.
Kieran Mitchell was then joined by Kieran Swanson for the final nine minutes as Quinn Coulson went off and the latest sub was unlucky not to be an immediate success after Thomson accepted a misplaced pass in the centre of the field, found Mitchell whose ball through for the sub was just too much and the keeper cleared.
An 89th minute Swanson effort from 30 yards out cleared the crossbar and despite pushing until the very end of the added minutes there was to be no equaliser.
