Five goal McGill turns it into the Gabby Show
Greg Shields was able to field a strong reserve eleven against Crossgates Primrose in this Sunday lunchtime pre season friendly at Humbug Park. Two of the previous days subs - Lewis McCann and Gabby McGill - started and there was a welcome sight of Danny Devine back on the football park after eight weeks out.
McGill took the kick off and within three minutes he was on the scoresheet. It was Josh Edwards excellent ball from half way that set up McGILL to run in and smack the ball past the advancing keeper Grant Henderson. 0-1
Ten minutes later McGILL was on the scoresheet again after Henderson failed to take Lewis McCann’s cross from the left byeline and the former Middlesbrough youth couldn’t miss. 0-2
Lewis Sawers embarked on a solo run in from the left but tried the shot himself when other options might have had better result, his shot from 15 yards going straight into the keeper’s hands.
Midway through the first half the Pars defended two Primrose corners but then a quick break saw McGill deliver from the left, McCann was closed out but Matthew Todd crashed a shot on target that was blocked.
The third goal in 24 minutes completed the hattrick for McGILL. It was Paul Allan who controlled the ball in midfield to tee up the striker who finished with a powerful shot from 25 yards into the bottom left of the home net. 0-3
Allan had a close one hitting a 20 yard free kick towards the left side of the goal but Henderson turned it around the post for a corner. After Tom Lang and Matty Bowman combined to win a 39th minute corner, Lang met McCann’s low delivery from the right but his attempt cleared the bar.
Three minutes from the break McGILL struck again receiving the ball on the right and drilling in on goal to drive past Henderson. 0-4
Last effort of the half in added time was a Devine header on a McCann corner but directed to the keeper. The Pars had dominated play in the first 45 and thoroughly deserved the margin of their lead.
Half time: Crossgates Primrose 0 Dunfermline 4
As pre planed Thomas Bragg replaced Danny Devine before the second half got underway and five minutes later the hosts found themselves another two goals down.
Firstly a foul on Josh Edwards handed Dunfermline a free kick 20 yards out. McCANN grabbed the ball and from the setpiece just left of centre he placed the ball in the top left corner. 0-5
Then on 50 minutes keeper Henderson spilled the ball and the predator that was McGILL needed no invitation whatsoever to stick away his fifth of the match. 0-6
Goal number seven followed seven minutes later and really it had Lewis Crosbie written all over it as he waltzed around opponents into the penalty box and laid the ball off to TODD who finished clinically. 0-7
The script received a blip on the hour when a ball in from the left fell to Dale ALLAN on the far side of the six yard box and he stuck the ball past Ben Swinton 1-7
The Primrose comeback continued on 67 minutes when Darren AITKEN was able to crash a shot on target from 25 yards out giving a Swinton no chance. 2-7
Dunfermline introduced four subs in 77 minutes withdrawing Lang, Edwards, McGill and McCann to bring on Josh Robertson, Gregor Jordan, Trialist and Liam Newton. But it was Crossgates who continued their comeback when Barry PATERSON took a well taken goal coming in from the right to fire into the far side of the net, 3-7.
That was the end of the scoring but ten goals great value for the fans who turned out.
