MOTHERWELL RESERVES 5 DUNFERMLINE RESERVES 1
Dunfermline were made to suffer for taking an early lead as a Conor Sammon double and further goals from Watson, Livingstone and Mbulu earned Motherwell three wins out of three in the Reserve League Cup.
The Dunfermlne side that travelled to Forthbank included Tom Beadling, Joe Thomson and Robbie Muirhead and the pair returning from injury - Kallum Higginbotham and Lewis Martin.
Motherwell fielded more than half the layers who featured in their Colts 2-0 win over Sligo Rovers the previous Saturday in the Irn Bru Cup.
It was the best possible start for the Fifers with MUIRHEAD slotting in at the back post after good work by Higginbotham. 0-1
Despite going behind to the early goal the Premier League club showed plenty of resolve to get back in the match. They forced two corners in sixth minute with Cammy Gill punching away the second inswinger.
Three minutes later Johnson sent a wide wide and then another corner was met by the head of Muirhead. Some respite came when Higginbotham won a free kick midway into the half and caused Christian Mbulu to head clear. `Well got the goal that they had threatened in 24 minutes. It was Liam Brown`s run that set up the goal playing in Newell for Broque WATSON to net from an acute angle on the right. 1-1
SAMMON made it 2-1 seven minutes later converting a low Watson cross in from the right.
Paul Allan sent Higginbotham away eight minutes later and Beadling hit the lay off wide. Both sides had corners before the break, Gill cleared from Mbulu and when Stuart Morrison failed to connect properly on Muirhead`s delivery, Thomson hit his effort wide.
Half time: Motherwell 2 Dunfermline 1
Half time substitutes for Dunfermline, Kallum Higginbotham and Lewis Martin off replaced by Gregor Jordan and Matty Todd.
Motherwell increased their lead two minutes into the second half from a corner on the right cut back to the unmarked Adam LIVINGSTONE approx 28 yards out and rifled a low left footed shot into the right side with Gill probably unsighted with the mass of players in front of him. 3-1.
In 61 minutes a strong run up the right from Watson deep into the box for a cut back was headed square by Johnson for SAMMON to slam home at the back post. 4-1
Further misery was piled on the Pars when a 79th minute corner was cut back to Livingstone lying deep and his cross was headed into the goal by MBULU. 5-1
