CIVIL SERVICE STROLLERS 2 DUNFERMLINE 1
It was a young 20s side that travelled to Christie Gillies Park in Edinburgh to take on the Lowland League side on Tuesday night. After a few first team appearances Lewis McCann was back with his former Fife Elite team mates and it was the big striker who caused the opposition all the bother in the opening twenty five minutes.
He had twice found himself with possession deep into the Strollers box but was unable to release a shot on goal. Lewis got his head on a Matthew Todd free kick but his effort was deflected behind for a corner.
Lewis Crosbie’s delivery was headed on target by Todd only for keeper Kyle Rankin to tip the ball over his bar. Before all this the Edinburgh side had hit the crossbar in 14 minutes and skipper Paul Allan had headed away at a corner five minutes later but appropriately it was McCANN who opened the scoring, heading home in 25 minutes from Crosbie’s corner. 0-1
The lead lasted all of four minutes until David CHURCHILL accepted a pass from the right to tap the ball in. 1-1
There was a chance to restore the lead from a free kick around 25 yards out. Strollers headed away Todd’s delivery and when Paul Brown returned a shot from distance the ball dropped on the roof of the net.
Three minutes later in 35, Brown had another shot blocked from another corner that Crosbie sent in. There was nice play between the Lewis’ Sawers and McCann but neither were able to get a shot away.
It’s was 42 minutes when Strollers went ahead, Shaun TURNBULL heading in from a corner. 2-1
Crosbie responded before the break, receiving a great diagonal ball from Allan before producing a fine cross but Strollers sent that behind and the Crosbie corner was headed clear.
Half time: Civil Service Strollers 2 Dunfermline 1
The visitors kicked the second half off and within two minutes Swanson tested the Strollers keeper. Todd’s 51st minute shot was hit wide and next a Sawers effort was parried away by Rankin and Crosbie was unable to net the follow up.
After ten minutes of the second half Strollers made a mass substitution, too many to register before Sawers was unlucky when the keeper’s clearance hit him and went out for a goal kick. Todd then hit the top of the crossbar.
Substitutions followed for both sides, Crosbie had another chance, a Sawers cross was cleared and Todd’s 73rd minute free kick was headed clear. The same fate was to come of his 85th minute effort after hitting a short taken Crosbie corner.
