INVERNESS CALEY THISTLE 1 DUNFERMLINE 0

A fine competitive performance from the young Pars side was denied a point after the home side were awarded a penalty 20 minutes from time. The Inverness media would later reveal that the penalised incident was probably outside the penalty box. Blair McLennan converted from the spot and the long day trip up the A9 and back sadly bore no fruits.

The Development squad faced Inverness at the Caledonian Stadium and, for the first time in a long time, John Potter was able to field an unchanged starting eleven. So it was the side that knocked St Mirren out of the SFA Youth Cup on Sunday that lined up against an Inverness side that included five over age players.

The Pars kicked off and Evan Horne forced a corner kick within 25 seconds but it was eight minutes into the game before Johnny Galloway got in a shot that the Nverness defence blocked. The home side then tested Cammy Gill and his one handed save teed up a chance on the rebound but that was sent over the crossbar.

It went back and forward, Scott Lochhead hit the back stantion with an effort from distance and Reece Duncan wa called upon to head away a cross in from the right. Lochhead had another long distance crack at goal in 26th minute and was very unlucky to see that slip narrowly wide.

Conner Duthie next hit a shot from distance that went straight into the hands of keeper Daniel Hoban. The left back also sent a 35th minute free kick over the crossbar while in between Cole despatched a shot with the same result. Lochhead and then Horne kept the theme going sending his 38th and 41st minute chances over Hoban`s bar.

The Highlanders two efforts before the break at least exercised the Dnfermline keeper. A Duthie clearance hit Boden and Gill had to make a save and then Jake Mulroney tested the Pars keeper who required first half sub Matthew Todd to clear.

The second half continued with attempts at both ends. McLennan hit the first well wide four minutes into the half and Lochhead`s effort two minutes later was blocked by Gilchrist. Gill punched away from Inverness` 53rd minute corner, Sam Robertson headed a Brown cross wide and the Pars then threatened from a Duthie free kick.

The action kept coming. Horne hit his 58th minute effort over the bar, Gill blocked a Gill shot and Todd headed clear when Mulraney delivered a free kick from the right touchline.

Then in 70th minute the referee pointed to the spot and MacLENNAN stepped up to convert. 1-0

The Fifers appealed for a penalty of their own only three minutes later when Morrison claimed to have been pushed as he went for a free kick in the opposition box. The visitors continued to search for the equaliser. Duncan`s low cross was cut out and then with ten minutes to go, Duthie moved forward as Jack McClair came on for Robbie Crawford.

Brandon Luke set up Lochhead but he could only win a corner. Todd swung over the corner but Duthie`s connection went over the bar. In 89th minute Lochhead hit a shot straight at Hoban and despite a final push and Lochhead corner the Pars just couldn`t hit the target.
