DUNFERMLINE 5 ST MIRREN 1
Michael Moffat grabbed the opportunity of an outing in the Develoment League to remind manager Allan Johnston of his goalscoring credentials. The striker hit a hattrick as the Pars demolished St Mirren at New Central Park, Kelty on Tuesday afternoon. Enjoy some match time, Nat Wedderburn, Paul McMullan and Callum Fordyce were also included in John Potter`s side.
It was the visitors who kicked off and within two minutes tested the Pars young keeper Josh Dunn. Reece Duncan pushed up the right but his delivery was too strong but a Fordyce cross from deep created an opening for a fifth minute opener. Euan SPARK cut into the left side of the Saints box and slotted the ball home in the far corner. 1-0
McMullan then executed a dangerous cross that keeper Willison punched out but he could do little to prevent the Pars doubling their lead with just 12 minutes on the clock. McMullan sent the ball on to Scott Lochhead and he cut past his marker to shoot. The attempt was blocked but MOFFAT proved predator and slotted the chance away. 2-0
Johnny Galloway was next to get a shooting opportunity after near play from Spark and Smith. St Mirren tried to counter with a corner that Galloway cleared and then making Duncan clear a dangerous ball in from the right.
Back at the other end Duncan then had a shot blocked as he tried to convert a Smith cut back and Lochhead was unable to capitalise on the second ball. McMullan fired a 26th minute free kick past the keeper`s left hand post and then Smith just couldn`t get on a Lochhead pass. Pars pressure was maintained with Moffat passing inside from the left side for a McMullan again send the ball wide.
Dunfermline did not let up and in the final ten minutes of the half continued to cause their Paisley opponents problems. Nice skills from Moffat and Spark allowed the latter to swing over a good ball but that was cleared. Lochhead sent a 36th minute free kick on the right corner of the box over the crossbar and two minutes later Smith supplied another chance for Lochhead but that got blocked.
There were unsuccessful claims for a 39th minute penalty when McMullan went down in the box, Moffat was a bit heavy on a pass for Spark and a McMullan cross was headed out before in the first minute of added time at the end of the first half, McMullan had another opportunity from a free kick on the right but St Mirren cleared.
Half time: Dunfermline 2 St Mirren 0
Cameron MacPherson came on for Kyle Magennis for the restart and the Buddies might have got right back into the game but the crossbar kept them out and Kalvin Orsi followed that up with only Dunn to beat but sent his attempt over the bar.
The Pars got back into attack mode with McMullan`s effort from a Lochhead cross being blocked and then Greig McDonald dispossessed Moffat before he could get his shot away. Then in 59 minutes GALLOWAY finished with a well placed low shot from the edge of the box. 3-0
St Mirren struck back seven minutes through ORSI. Dunn got knocked as he went for free kick from the right and the Saintee headed home. 3-1
Dunfermline did let the reversal affect them and Moffat had a good attempt from a Galloway pass. Next minute the 72nd MOFFAT dispatched a shot from an angle to restore the three goal lead.
The 31 year old striker completed his hattrick just two minutes later. McMullan passed the ball inside from the right to Wedderburn and he in turn threaded it through for MOFFAT to finish. 5-1
All three subs were committed for the final ten minutes and Ciaran Lafferty was unlucky in 85th minute after Galloway and Crawford combined. Next Crawford, Duncan and Thomas created an opportunity for Crawford to deliver a ball into the danger area in front of the St Mirren goal but that was cleared.
Right at the end Galloway let fly with a great volleyed effort which hit a defender on the back and was cleared. It was a good game for the Pars side who put in a fine performance.
