LIVINGSTON 0 DUNFERMLINE 4
Dunfermline faced Livingston in the Second Round of the Scottish FA Youth Cup on Sunday afternoon on the Almondvale Astro. Coach John Potter had a full squad to select from and James Thomas and Brandon Luke were the unlucky ones named as subs. The visitors kicked off in a bracing wind!!
Ciaran Lafferty was the first player to get a shot at goal but that was blocked by Ryan Day and a corner followed but when Robbie Crawford delivered from the left, it was cleared by Livingston.
A superb ball from Conner Duthie was chested down by Lafferty who set up the sixth minute opener by picking out Callum SMITH and the striker slotted the ball away. 0-1
A Crawford pass a minute later allowed Scott Lochhead to test the keeper and in nine minute Evan Horne had his effort blocked. The keeper then kept out Lafferty after another fine ball from Conner Duthie, and Smith`s follow up was launched high over the bar.
The Pars continued to attack and a great cross from right back Reece Duncan was just too high for Lafferty. A 20th Livingston corner created no danger and Cammy Gill only had a goal kick to involve him.
Next minute Smith was sent through at the other end but he sent the ball over the bar. The Pars were awarded a 24th minute penalty for handball in the box but the Pars penalty hoodoo extended to the youth team with Duncan seeing his spot kick saved by keeper, Conor Quinn who dived the right way.
There was a rare chance for Livi on the half hour but the Pars defence cleared. Duncan and Crawford combined to set up an opportunity but the latter was then unable to get his shot away. The home defence snuffed out Lafferty before he could get enough control as he tried received a Horne free kick.
Gill saves from a 36th minute Livingston free kick before this time good play between Galloway and Crawford created danger but not enough to beat the defence. Duncan had to head clear from a Livingston corner before Dunfermline ended the half by failing to take three good chances
First a Lafferty shot was saved by the keeper. Then Crawford was presented with a chance but could only win a corner and in the minute added a Duthie free kick from the touchline targeted Smith but he was unable to get his head to the ball.
The young Pars team had dominated this match but had only one goal to show for it.
Half time: Livingston 0 Dunfermline 1
Pars had the wind behind them for the second half and they subbed Robbie Crawford to bring on Brandon Luke. Day was called upon to blocks a 47th minute shot from the Pars sub before Smith forced a corner that Lochhead sent through the box untouched.
Horne took the next corner but the keeper collected from a Duthie header. A Lafferty effort suffered the same fate and Duncan`s effort from distance fell well wide. Good play results in a Luke shot, Lafferty with a shot on the turn but straight at the keeper and Horne shot but Quinn saved.
His own side gave Gill some rare action after a poor back header allowed Sommerville to shoot. A second Dunfermline goal then made it much more comfortable for the visitors. The skills of Duthie and Smith forced a corner on the left. Horne took the corner short to LOCHHEAD who fired in a shot from the corner of the 18 yard box into the right side of net, 0-2
The Pars peppering of the Livi goal was relentless. Smith, Lochhead, Smith again and then Morrison all had cracks at goal. Lochhead`s corner was cleared but a third goal materialised from a Lafferty pass. Scott LOCHHEAD`s 69th minute strike made it 0-3.
Day receiving treatment after Pars sub Thomas caught him in the face with his boot. Galloway was wide with his attempt after fine play again by Duthie. Smith was caught offside and then James Thomas was offside before a fantastic 88th minute volley from TODD hit the target from the edge of the box, 0-4
Great performance by the young lads who dominated the game from start to finish.
