U20s v Sheffield United
Thursday, 21st Jul 2016Goalless draw at warm and sunny Broadwood
Based at Stirling University, Sheffield United`s Development squad took in four matches on their pre season tour in Scotland. They won 2-0 against Hamilton Accies on Tuesday night, drew 1-1 with Dundee United yesterday, ahead of taking on Dunfermline at Broadwood on Thursday afternoon.
The Pars put up a good performance on the first half moving the ball well and might have been ahead at half time. They had a couple of good chances and coach John Potter felt that is how he wants his team to play. An injury to trialist Kieran Lafferty meant that Robbie Crawford came off the bench with only 13 minutes on the clock.
The second half wasn`t as silky but again the Fifers had enough chances to win the game. Just a little more work in the final third and that would have happened. Sheffield United came more into it in the second half and while the remaining Pars bench of John Potter and Allan Johnston were not deployed the Yorkshire team freshened things up with a string of substitutions.
Taking all that into consideration the young Pars side showed good fitness. James Thomas had a good chance to clinch the winner near the end but uncharacteristically he failed to finish two good opportunities. The keeper blocked his first attempt and then when the ball was returned from the right he was shut out.
