DUNFERMLINE 5 DUNDONALD BLUEBELL 1
John Potter`s Under 20s kicked off in the Kelty Hearts Tournament against opponents newly promoted to the SJFA East Super League. Potts formed a central defensive partnership with Callum Fordyce and upfront James Thomas and Callum Smith led the line with Callum looking forward to playing against his father who was named on the bench for the opposition.
Dundonald fielded their new signings Ricky Patrick from St Andrews, Ross Drummond from Berwick Rangers and Scott Morrison from Rosyth.
Bluebell kicked off playing south to north but the Pars took the early play to their opponents. Smith driving a fourth minute chance into the right sidenetting. Four more minutes passed before the Trialist, Scott Lochhead was presented with a glorious chance when Smith`s ball in from the right byeline picked him out on the top of the box but the ball ended up in the trees.
The Pars thoroughly deserved the opener in 11th minute Thomas crossed a difficult ball right into the six yard box and a helpless Scott Mayne under pressure from Euan Spark turned the ball into his own net. 1-0
Two minutes later Smith robbed a short pass back on the left and sent the ball across the face of goal for THOMAS to net. 2-0
The juniors` first attempt at goal was in 19 minutes when Scott Walton despatched a shot from well out narrowly over Cammy Gill`s crossbar. Another Pars goal followed six minutes later after Spark did well to keep the ball in play down the left. The new boy checked and delivered a right footed cross right into the danger zone in front of goal where SMITH crashed the ball home. 3-0
Dunfermline continued to attack Conner Duthie`s launch into the Bluebell half being collected by Thomas off the defender`s header and then feeding the ball right for Duthie whose cross was headed behind by trialist Craig Waugh for a corner on the left. That was taken short but not well used but eventually Fordyce got an opportunity to shoot from 35 yards but was well wide.
Thomas made scoring look easy in registering his second of the half in 32 minutes. Smith picked out THOMAS on the top of the box and he made a cheeky lift to find the net on the right side. 4-0
Scott Lawrie got the better of Potter to drive a shot narrowly over the top but then in 40th minute former Par, Ross Drummond showed that he had lost none of his ability to inject sudden pace into his game and got a good cross in from the left a give Scott MORRISON a simple tap in. 4-1
Half time: Dunfermline 4 Dundonald Bluebell 1
For Bluebell Scott Orrick replaced Duffy at the start of the second half and Gill was beaten within 90 seconds by a 30 yard shot from Anthony that only his left hand post kept out. Drummond made Gill save from a 30 yard free kick while at the other end Thomas fired his free kick wide right.
Spark was taken out on the left side and Duthie sent the ball across the face of goal but there were no takers for this 63rd minute setpiece. Two minutes later the Pars were presented with a second own goal when Duthie`s delivery into the centre of the box was swept into his own net by WAUGH. 5-1
Stuart Morrison, Brandon Luke and John James Henderson had come on in 59 minutes and 12 later Josh Robertson and Jack McClair followed. Gill made a double save in 73 minutes, losing the ball behind him from his first and then recovering to dive at the feet of Lawrie.
There were to be no more goals, Luke coming closest to making an addition with a shot that hit the left goalpost. Good match practice for the under 20s who return on Sunday afternoon to play the hosts Kelty Hearts who defeated a young Cowdenbeath U20s by six goals to one.
