RANGERS 3 DUNFERMLINE 0
It was a young Pars eleven that kicked off against Rangers in this SPFL Development League match played at Murray Park on Friday afternoon. Ryan Williamson was to get another 75 minutes of game time but apart from him there were no others with first team experience in the Fifers starting line up.
Liam Coogans made his second appearance as Trialist and he was immediately caught offside from an Evan Horne through ball. In only the sixth minute James Thomas went down after being caught by on his leg David Brownlie and received treatment.
Rangers ninth minute corner on the left was taken short but when the cross came over in it was over hit and the Pars defence cleared. Cammy Gill was called upon to gather a shot from Jordan Gibson and Dunfermline countered with a pass from Horne to Williamson but Ryan just had too much to do to catch the pass. A long ball from Morrison to Thomas in 16th minutes could not be brought down and keeper Robby McCrorie gathered.
Rangers were to use a 19th minute sub which consequently found them running out of players. Jamie Bardjonas was replaced by Max Ashmore. Two minutes further on a Jamie Mills shot went well wide of Gill's goal.
At the midpoint in the first half Stuart Morrison headed out a dangerous ball and Williamson too made a clearance. Cammy McClair made a good tackle but conceded a 24th minute corner that was again taken short and again the defence dealt with that.
Next Williamson blocked a shot and Rangers were awarded another corner this time on the left. When sent over Robbie Crawford headed the ball out and then Johnny Galloway cleared. Josh
Robertson was then called upon to block a Sinnamon cross from a corner on right. Another taken short that Jordan Orru headed away when duly sent in.
In an attempt to attack Rangers Thomas was offside from a Coogans pass. A Coogans cross was too easily cut out by the Gers defence and in between times Ross Lyon sent a shot just over Gill's crossbar and Gill made an easy save from Rory Currie. A defensive slip almost let Rangers in 34 minutes but Gill fouled by McLeod.
It was the Pars defence that was deployed the most and Robertson made a telling tackle on the left. Morrison won possession and released Crawford but Rangers recovered.
A Currie shot went straight to Gill and a 39th minute shot from Gibson went well over Gill crossbar. Scott Roberts followed that with a wide attempt. goes wide. A rare Pars shot was sent straight at the keeper after pass Horne had teed up Thomas.
Lyon cleared Gill's crossbar before in the first minute of added time at the end of the first half Jordan GIBSON found the net. Rangers had enjoyed most of the pressure in the first half and there was a need for a turnaround of fortune in the second half.
Half time: Rangers 1 Dunfermline 0
Rangers kicked off the second half with no further changes to their team, Dunfermline brought on Reece Duncan for Robbie Crawford. First chance came from a 46th minute corner at which McLeod sent the ball over the bar. The defence was again placed under pressure with a free kick on the edge of the box and a handful of corners.
Just seven minutes into the second half a second Rangers sub was introduced, McLeod going off and Jamie Brandon coming on.
Dunfermline were hemmed into their own half and another taken short corner on left was cleared by the defence. Williamson makes a good block from Gibson but a corner was given on left. From that corner Rangers got a second goal. Cammy GILL got his hands on Lyon's cross but could only help the ball into his own net. 2-0
60: Corner on left to Dunfermline. Horne to take. McCrorie gathers at the second attempt.
61: Corner on right to Dunfermline. Horne to take. Thomas shot blocked, then McClair with the follow up
McClair's shot was blocked on the line and Rangers cleared. A Rangers corner was diverted by Williamson for another corner, taken short again and then Rangers won a free kick on the right. Roberts chance went over the bar.
Promising play from Morrison and Galloway set up Duncan to swing the ball into the Rangers box but the keeper gathered. Back in defensive mode Morrison cut out a 70th minute cross and next minute Gill punched clear after a corner from the led to a shot on target.
Williamson was withdrawn with 15 minutes remaining and John James Henderson came on. That was followed by Brandon Luke coming on to replace Galloway. Both sides had further chances but the keepers came out on top before on 80 minutes Roberts scored a Rangers third.
Luke and Gibson both had efforts to alter the scoreline but even though the home side were to end up playing with nine men there was to be no consolation for the Pars.
Having fielded all three subs Rangers went down to ten men on 84 minutes when Lang was forced to call it a day and then five minutes later Jeffries was shown a red card for a high tackle on Morrison.P
Not the best of performances from the youngsters today, but more game time for Williamson.
