U20s v Hibernian
Thursday, 5th Nov 2015SPFL Development League: Jamie Insull (8) 0-1
DUNFERMLINE 0 HIBERNIAN 1
This 'home' game was played at Ainslie Park, Edinburgh on Thursday afternoon. After five weeks out Josh Falkingham returned to competitive action in a young Dunfermline side with John Potter in defence. Four players dropped out from Sunday's Youth Cup team - Johnny Galloway, Shaun Rooney, Brandon Luke and James Thomas meaning there were starting places for Robbie Crawford and Scott Sutherland.
Hibs threatened as early as the third minute when a corner on left was taken short and as a result Conner Duthie got in a header that went over the bar. Cammy Gill pulled off a fine save three minutes later and in between times Paul Joseph Crossan had a chance that was unsuccessful.
A Pars corner in seven minutes was taken short on the left and when the ball was centred Falkingham sent a shot narrowly wide. Hibs had better luck next minute, Falkingham lost possession at halfway and a break down the left set up a cut back that Jamie INSULL put away. 0-1
Potter cut out a cross before Olly Shaw could reach it before an 18th minute corner was sent well wide by Falkingham. Jordan Orru made a surging run down the left and was unlucky not to get a delivery in.
At the other end Lewis Spence cleared a corner from the right and it was the midfielder who got in the next Pars effort at the midway point in the first half but that was blocked. PJ Crossan was then unlucky as keeper Sean Brennan got to a cross just before him.
Hibs pressed and Watson sent a shot high over Gill's bar, Insull was unlucky when the Pars clear his attempt and Gill punched clear from a corner. A 32nd minute free kick 26yds out was despatched over Gill's crossbar before a Robbie Crawford pass to Crossan gave Brennan something to do with appeals for a Hibs hand ball en route.
Spence won a free kick about 30 yards out that Falkingham lobbed in but the ball was headed out. Sutherland has an attempt and then Orru went down in box after rising to head the ball but came off worse. After treatment by the Hibs physio he was substituted by Johnny Galloway meaning McClair dropped back to left back.
Four minutes from the break Crossan challenged Brennan who dropped the ball but managed to recover. At other end Gill made a good save from Insull before Crossan won a foul at the side of box. Falkingham popped an attempt but was well wide of goal and in added time Morrison headed clear from a Hibs corner.
Half Time - Dunfermline 0 Hibs 1
Dunfermline kick off second half with no changes to either team. Hibs conceded a corner from a Spence cross but Hibs cleared and then Gill saved a header from a Hibs corner.
The Pars keeper was kept busy after Spence was dispossessed on edge of box. He punched clear a shot from Stirling and on the hour came out and gathered in front of Shaw. Shaw received treatment from the clash.
Gill dealt with another two Hibs corners before both sides made substitutions. Firstly Watson came off and Fraser Murray went on then Dunfermline withdrew Falkingham and Brandon Luke came on.
Crossan was unlucky not to do better after long ball through to him. Potter headed a free kick over the Hibs bar before Gill was called upon to save from a Hibs free kick. Shaw had two opportunities to extend the margin but sent both efforts wide and the match ended with all three points going back to Easter Road.
