U20s v Motherwell
Tuesday, 15th Sep 2015SPFL Development League: Paul Joseph Crossan (22) 1-0; Ryan Watters (90) 1-1
DUNFERMLINE 1 MOTHERWELL 1
This Development League 'home' game was played at Broadwood on Tuesday afternoon. Coach John Potter again had the services of first team squad members Ryan Wallace, Mickael Antoine-Curier, David Hopkirk and keeper David Hutton.
The Pars kicked off and Wallace created the first chance for Antoine-Curier but the ball got caught up in his feet and the opportunity was lost. In tenth minute Motherwell had a good shout for a penalty when Jordan Orru stopped his opponent's progress along the byeline in the box but referee Duncan Williams did not buy it and in the same minute at the other Dunfermline forced a corner when James Thomas' shot was turned behind by Dan Twardzik.
Paul Joseph Crossan sent his effort over the crossbar three minutes later while a Motherwell attempt was also off target. Hopkirk won the ball in midfield but when he picked out Antoine-Curier the final ball was cut out.
Then midway through the half CROSSAN was fed the ball from Wallace and he fired a shot home from the edge of the box into the top right corner. 1-0
The Fifers had the ball in the net again five minutes later Wallace hitting the target but from an offside position. Wallace and Hopkirk both tried shots in quick succession but hit defenders. A 35th minute free kick was quickly taken by Wallace chipping the ball to Thomas but his attempt was parried by the keeper and the follow up was blocked.
Thomas had another headed effort saved before Motherwell sent a chance well wide. The half was to end with another two opportunities for the Pars. First a Wallace attempt was deflected to the keeper and then a Hopkirk shot was saved by the keeper low down at his right hand post.
Half Time: Dunfermline 1 Motherwell 1
Just two minutes into the second half Antoine-Curier was on the end of a Cammy McClair cross but his powerful header was kept out by the post. Motherwell too came close in 52 minutes with a cross that had no takers. Back at the other end Wallace again fed Thomas with a chance but he couldn't control and the defence cleared.
Antoine-Curier followed that with a header straight at the keeper from close range before Motherwell had a couple of chances. Ryan Watters dragged a shot well wide of target and Dylan Mackin headed a Robbie Leitch corner over the bar.
In 67 minutes Wallace launched a long range shot that was easily gathered by Twardzik. His opposite number Hutton got down to a Mackin effort to save at his post.
A Wallace free kick from the right created another chance for Thomas but that was blocked and Stuart Morrison's follow up went straight to the keeper.
Six minutes from time Crossan sent the ball across goal but Thomas could not take the chance. The Steelmen were to snatch an equaliser in 90th minute when WATTERS latched on to a ball that was not properly cleared. It was a scrappy goal but enough to cost the Pars two points.
