ST MIRREN 1 DUNFERMLINE 5
The Pars travelled through for a 6.00pm kick off in the Development League at St Mirren's Greenhill Road stadium and it was to be the first sighting of latest signing Mickael Antoine Curier. He started up front alongside Paul Joseph Crossan with first team squad members Shaun Byrne, Ryan Wallace and David Hopkirk in supporting roles.
The Pars started briskly with St Mirren keeper Mark Ridgers tested twice within the opening two minutes. He had held a Johnny Galloway cross before he had to turn a Wallace shot around his right hand post and then from the corner the keeper saved after Wallace got another chance.
The visitors pressure was relentless and it was no surprise when Shaun ROONEY head in from a Wallace corner from the right in the fourth minute. 0-1
The lead was extended just four minutes later when a Byrne pass sent Hopkirk down the left. He made ground and delivered a great ball to the far post where CURIER had a simple task to net. 0-2
In 17 minutes Rooney stopped the cross from the left but conceded a corner but Saints made nothing of it. Wallace was spoken to by the referee after conceding a 21st minute free kick. The setpiece from 30 yards out on the right was flighted to the far post where central defender Mark Barrowman met it with a header that went straight to Cammy Gill.
Back to the other end and Curier laid the ball off for Crossan to fire from the edge of the box but the ball cleared the crossbar. Crossan had possession on the left and he sent an inviting ball across the six yard box but a defender got a touch to deflect the ball away.
Dunfermline then scored their third goal of the evening when Hopkirk lofted the ball into the box from the left for Curier to head down for WALLACE to finish with his right foot. 0-3
In 34 minutes St Mirren looked certain to score as first Jordan Stewart and then Jaison McGrath made Gill pull off a great double save. Lewis McLear forced a corner two minutes later but Curier headed that away.
Three minutes from the break, Gill came out to turn McGrath's danger behind for a corner on the left but Curier again rose to head clear.
St Mirren had got into the game a bit more but the scoreline punished them for their early slackness. Dunfermline in contrast had taken their chances and limited the Championship club's opportunities.
Half time: St Mirren 0 Dunfermline 3
The Pars got the second half off to a great start as well hitting Saints with a double within six minutes. First Curier was deep on the right to cut back for CROSSAN to score although it was his third attempt that eventually beat Ridgers. 0-4
That 49th minute goal was followed by a fifth two minutes later when Hopkirk sent an impressive long pass into the path of CURIER and the big striker made no mistake to record his second of the night. 0-5
Mark Morrison and sub Kyle Magennis sent shots narrowly wide before McLEAR was successful in 63 minutes with a fine shot from the edge of the box. 1-5
St Mirren hit the post as the match entered its final quarter. Scott Sutherland and Robbie Crawford came on for the final twenty minutes with Mickael Antoine Curier and Johnny Galloway going off.
Gill was the busier of the keepers as the match drew to a close and Gill did well to keep Stewart out at the left upright. In 82 minutes a Stewart free kick then started off some head tennis in the Pars box but the defence cleared.
There was a chance to make it six when Sutherland sent Crossan into the box on the right but after rounding the keeper the 17 year old crashed his shot into the sidenetting. Nevertheless it was great to see the Development team continue the first team's scoring habit.
A result like this the next time in Paisley for the Quarter Final of the Petrofac Training Cup will be just fine!
