KELTY HEARTS 2 DUNFERMLINE 3
The Under 20s first friendly of pre season was played at Kinross on Tuesday night against Kelty Hearts. After being troubled with a back strain, Lewis Martin returned to action at left back in what was a young Pars side.
Kelty had two former Pars in their starting eleven; Stephen Husband and keeper Kyle Allison. Hubby took little time to fire his first attempt at goal, pelting the first chance over the bar from 35 yards within 50 seconds.
The East Super League champions had exerted the early pressure with Cammy Gill having to hold balls in from either side. In ninth minute however Dunfermline broke through the middle and Cammy McClair's pass played James THOMAS in to turn the ball past Allison. 0-1
On the quarter hour Paul Joseph Crossan chased up the right to catch a ball that looked destined to go out. He beat his man and then picked out Thomas at the far post. He appealed loudly as he felt his header crossed the line before the keeper got the ball away. With no linesman the defending team appeared to get the benefit of the doubt.
At the other end Gill was stretched to parry away a good effort from Neil McCabe. Then the Pars keeper had to hold when Stuart Cargill got a great touch on a ball in from the left.
On 28 minutes Allison had to turn a deflection off his own defender behind from a McClair free kick and he followed that up by plucking McClair's subsequent corner out from under his post. Four minutes later a surging Martin run up the left allowed him to find Thomas in the box but he skied the shot and PJ could only head wide.
Kelty put their opponents under pressure as the break approached but in 40th minute they got caught on the counterattack. Johnny Galloway started the move with a fine pass to PJ Crossan and he powered down a central path to pick out THOMAS. The striker's shot was saved by the keeper but only into the path of the Pars man knee and the ball was forced home. 0-2
Half time: Kelty Hearts 0 Dunfermline 2
The first effort of the second half came from Kelty's McCabe but Gill pulled off a good save when it looked like Kelty might just have found the opening. Ryan Finnie was subject of a couple of hard tackles and was substituted by John James Henderson just seven minutes into the second half.
A long shot from Scott Gates was then well stopped by Gill although at the second attempt with Kelty complaining that the ball had dropped over the goal line. There was no disputing the Kelty goal when it did come in 57th minute. McCabe crossed from the left and the tall Kelty no.7 Brian RITCHIE who rose to divert the ball past Gill with a telling header. 1-2
Scott Sutherland replaced Lewis Martin with 25 minutes remaining. The side was shuffled to allow the sub to play in his striker position. Thomas dropped back to midfield and Cammy McClair took over the left back role. Sutherland was immediately involved after being found on the right side of the penalty box by a Henderson pass that punctuated a fantastic piece of quick passing play. The return in front of goal was well met by GALLOWAY and he had a relatively easy task to make it 3-1 to Dunfermline.
Eleven minutes from the end Stephen HUSBAND was given an opportunity to fire from free kick on the right about 25 yards out. We've seen it before and the ball was bent around the four man defensive wall to find the net low at the near post. 2-3
