It was a young Dunfermline side that Andy Barrowman took north on Thursday to face Inverness Caley Thistle at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall.
There was no threats on the goalkeeper's until a seventh minute Inverness corner but that was blasted way over the bar. Four minutes later Ali Sutherland headed over the bar from a free kick sent over from the left. The visitors first attack of note was a minute later when Cammy McClair's pass to Robbie Crawford was sent on Paul Joseph Crossan but he was dispossessed before he could shoot.
A quickly taken 14th minute free kick to Scott Mercer put the left back up the park but his cross was cleared by the Inverness defence. McClair chipped over the keeper from the right but also cleared the goal as well.
Inverness took the lead four minutes later breaking on the counterattack after a mistake on halfway. Chris Blackett scurried down the right before delivering a cross that Jamie WILSON headed past Cammy Gill to make it 1-0.
Gill had a save when Liam Polwarth popped a shot from the edge of the box before in 26 minutes McClair's free kick from the left, after James Thomas had been fouled, led to the equalier. It was THOMAS who rose to head home. 1-1
An Inverness corner 11 minutes later allowed POLWARTH to fire the home side back into the lead. 2-1. Sutherland's shot from the left was wide and that was the final chance of quite an even half.
Half time: Inverness Caley Thistle 2 Dunfermline 1
McClair has a shot blocked before Robbie CRAWFORD volleyed home the Pars second equalier. A cross from Brandon Luke was defended out and the youngster found the top corner.
A push on Thomas earned a 58th minute free kick that McClair sent into the danger area but that was defended. Thomas then had a shot from the edge of the box but lacked the power to beat Daniel Hoban.
At the other end Gill made a good save from a corner, McClair set off on a run down the left but fortunately did not come to anything. Thomas had the ball in the back of the net in 64 minutes but was judged to have been offside when he received Crawford's pass.
There was an altercation between Gill and Wilson that earned them both a yellow card in 68 minutes. This heralded a busy period for the Pars keeper. First he saved a shot from Polwarth, then three minutes later touched over a Kink shot and from the subsequent corner he parried the ball over again. Then Gill blocked another Polwarth effort which went for a corner and from it he saved Jason Brown's header. The next corner was also cut out by Gill.
Scott Sutherland replaced Cammy McClair for the last ten minutes but a mistake in the Pars defence was to allow Inverness the chance to score what turned out to be the winning goal in 84th minute. Tarmo KINK found the net from the right side with a shot that gave Gill no chance of stopping.
It was a match in which the young players introduced to this level got valuable experience. The Pars second half showing was good and they finished the game strongly.
