U20s v Hearts
Thursday, 16th Apr 2015SPFL Development League: Ian Smith (16) 0-1; James Thomas 1-1
DUNFERMLINE 1 HEARTS 4
Dunfermline returned to East End Park for this Development League match against Hearts on Thursday afternoon.
Cammy McClair's second minute run down the left earned the home team an early corner that unfortunately came to nothing. Then a free kick on the left hand side of the pitch two minutes later saw Scott Mercer test keeper Kelby Mason. He turned it behind for a corner that Mercer took on the right but Declan O'Kane's header cleared the bar.
Dunfermline created more danger with a Ryan Williamson run and a cross but Mason cut that out. Robbie Buchanan for Hearts cut in and from a promising position failed to get any weight on his shot and Cammy Gill saved easily.
Hearts took the lead in 16th minute when a SMITH free kick from 20 yards out was deflected and although Gill got his hand to it the ball ended up in the back of the net. 0-1.
Two minutes later McClair tried to make amends with a cross that picked out Paul Joseph Crossan but the attempt went wide. Gill was kept busy as Morrison had a shot saved from a corner on the right and Liam Henderson tried a headed effort that the keeper dealt with.
Thomas had a shot saved by the Hearts keeper while at the other end Mercer headed away a cross by Moore. Williamson went on another run and when he found Mercer on the left, his cross went out for a corner.
Dunfermline 0 Hearts 1
The second half was just four minutes old when a Pars corner taken by Mercer was defended out to the left. McClair got in a shot but it was not good enough to beat the keeper. Two more Pars corners in quick succession changed nothing. When Thomas was fouled by Daniel Baur, another Mercer free kick was deflected out.
A Williamson cross from the right byeline travelled to the opposite side. McClair caught the ball before it could go out and his return was headed into the net by James THOMAS. 1-1
In 62 minutes Pars half time sub Robbie Crawford was crowded out by the defence. Four minutes later a Hearts free kick on the edge of the box was blasted over the bar by Smith. Hearts second goal arrived as the second half passed the midway point. Henderson lifted the ball over the Pars defence for MOORE to run on to and slot away. 1-2
Buchanan fired a free kick over the crossbar but time was running out for the Fifers. A shot from sub Fraser Scott went narrowly wide right and there were several other chances for Dunfermline but Hearts hit on the counterattack.
Buchanan's pass to ROY on the right sent the Hearts man away. He cut inside and from 18 yards out finished with the help of the post to put Hearts into a good position. 1-3.
There were four minutes left but enough time for Hearts to find the bottom left of the Pars box yet again. This time their goalscorer was BUCHANAN.
