DUNFERMLINE 1 PARTICK THISTLE 2
The U20s played another home match at the Excelsior Stadium on Monday night and it was a match that saw Ryan Williamson, David Hopkirk and Kyle McAusland play the full 90 minutes.
Pars keeper Jamie Wilson was the first to be called upon holding a seventh minute cross in from the left from Dale Keenan. A Partick free kick three minutes later was cleared by Declan O'Kane but Ben Richards-Everton got in a shot that Wilson had to save to his left.
Then an Athletic free kick looped in by Scott Mercer picked out Kyle McAusland who knocked the ball down for James Thomas but his overhead kick was held by keeper Marc Waters. There was 19 minutes on the clock when a foul on Paul George earned another free kick. This time David Hopkirk delivered but failed to find an attacker.
Three Thistle corners in quick succession all from the left, turned the pressure on Dunfermline and it was third time (un)lucky when Jack HENDRY rose above everyone else to meet David Wilson's delivery, his header found the right side of the Pars net. 0-1
One minute later in 25 minutes, Hopkirk's free kick was headed on target by Mercer but the goalkeeper cleared the danger. Next Wilson dived low to cut out a McInally cross after the Partick player had latched on to a loose ball.
A long pass out of defence from O'Kane to George on the left sent the former Celtic youth into the box but failed to get a cross or shot away before being closed out. Hopkirk had a run down the right in 35 minutes but when he shot the ball went wide left.
Before the break Thomas earned a free kick and Mercer found McAusland from it but his header went wide right.
Half time: Dunfermline 0 Partick Thistle 1
In the 48th minute a cross from Finnie was headed wide by Nisbet and in the next Hopkirk beat off two defenders on the right byeline and picked out George with his pass. The shot was deflected for a corner and from that corner there were appeals for a penalty when the Pars players clearly saw the ball handled by Richards-Everton.
A long through ball was forced off James Thomas by Richards-Everton. Three minutes later in 54 minutes Hendry was yellow carded for taking down Hopkirk outside the box on the left. Mercer took the free kick but it was saved by Waters.
Thomas had an opportunity from an O'Kane free kick but he could have done better with his attempt. The Pars got the goal they deserved in 64th minute. Sub Johnny Galloway gathered a defended ball and passed it for McAUSLAND to despatch a shot from just inside the box on the left. The shot found the left side of the net for 1-1.
Thomas was caught offside when Cammy McClair tried to pick him out but immediately after that he received a pass from McAusland but his shot was blocked. Hopkirk took a 75th minute free kick on the right that was gathered on the left by McAusland and when the ball found Orru his effort was deflected away off Richards-Everton.
Partick Thistle scored what turned out to be the winner four minutes later. McLaughlan's lay off to McDaid set up DOCHERTY whose shot found the Pars net. 1-2
With the young substitutes introduced there were further chances for Dunfermline but none that could rescue a point.
