U20s v Dundee
Tuesday, 24th Mar 2015SPFL Development League v Dundee. Craig Wighton (85) 0-1
DUNFERMLINE 0 DUNDEE 1
Dunfermline welcomed their Premier League opponents to the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie for another home game in the SPFL Development League. The Pars starting eleven looked fairly strong since it included a number of young players with a good measure of first team experience - Ryan Williamson, Shaun Byrne, Lewis Spence and Allan Smith while Ryan Thomson at the age of 23 was the most senior player in the squad.
Allan Smith fed Thomson a useful ball in the second minute but the chance turned out to be too far in front of him. Just two minutes later Williamson's run up the right ended with s pass to Thomson who eventually got in a shot from the edge of the box that went to the keeper.
There was nine minutes on the clock when Paul George cut in from the left to release a shot the a combination of defender and keeper kept him out. Dundee 's first threat came on the quarter hour when they avoided the offside trap. Lee Cameron ran in from the left to meet a pass from the right and Goodfellow was called upon to block the shot.
Declan O'Kane was then to come close at the other end. Some good possession earned Dunfermline a corner on the right and when George sent it in the centre back's header cleared the crossbar.
A Thomson pass to Smith sent the striker away down the right but his shot went to the left of the Dundee goal. Spence then had a crack at goal from outside the box but he too sent the ball wide left.
Dundee striker Craig Wighton took a poor touch when sent through and Goodfellow mopped up. Five minutes from the break Dundee won their first corner of the game. Cameron took it and firstly Williamson and then Urquhart headers kept the ball out.
Iain Davidson fouled Thomson and the Pars were given an opportunity from the free kick. Stuart Urquhart hit the wall from the setpiece and Finn Graham' s follow up went to keeper Calum Brodie. His Pars counterpart ensured the teams turned around all square when he tipped over a Ryan Gemmell shot on the stroke of half time.
Half time: Dunfermline 0 Dundee 0
Dunfermline had been the better team in the first half and this continued after the break. First chance came Smith's way but he saw that saved by Brodie. George and Smith then linked well, the former Celtic youth tried a shot but won a corner. The 51st minute corner was headed wide by O'Kane.
Scott Mercer pushed up and got a shot in on target but the keeper saved. Byrne, Smith and George then produced some impressive stuff to set up Williamson for a low cross into the box but Brodie saved that too.
Goodfellow saved from Calvin Colquhoun in 65 minutes Six more minutes passed before sub James Thomas won a corner when his effort peas turned behind. A foul on Byrne after he had released the ball to Thomas handed Urquhart another chance to fire a free kick at goal but it was deflected off the wall for a corner.
Dunfermline paid the penalty for not taking their chances. A pass into the box picked out WIGHTON on the right side and he evaded a couple of challenges before sticking the ball low into the left side of the Dunfermline goal. Five minutes left and it was 0-1.
There was time for a couple of chances at either but it was to end up in disappointment. Coach Andy Barrowman was particularly disappointed for his team who had shown great attitude and desire.
