Dunfermline travelled to Dingwall for this SPFL under 20 League match on Tuesday 15th April at the Global Energy Stadium. Stephen Wright was a lonely figure in the dugout as coaches John Potter and Craig Dargo played the full 90 minutes.
The visitors kicked off and had much of the early play. A Scott Mercer free kick on the left picked out Potter but his second minute header cleared the crossbar. Next Cammy McClair sent over a good cross that James Thomas sent the same way.
Three minutes later Dargo had a volley over the bar and Dunfermline maintained pressure on the County goal for the first ten minutes. Mercer sustained a dead leg in 14th minute and that eventually led to his substitution in the second half.
Mercer and Smith had chances in 19th minute when Williamson returned a Dargo pass into the box. Danger in the Pars box was cleared by Declan O`Kane and Williamson. In quick succession Tony Dingwall had a shot over the bar and then a cross that Kyle MacLeod narrowly missed.
After masses of Pars possession the home side had finally woken up and they continued to create opportunities through Dingwall and Kettlewell. Four minutes from the break Dargo was shown a yellow for complaining about a challenge on young Finn Graham but there could be no complaint when the Staggies took the lead. A cross from the left was was met by the head of Kyle MACLEOD who beat Jamie Wilson to his right.
Half time: Ross County 1 Dunfermline 0
Ross County had the first chances of the second 45; there were three before Potter had a shot from a Dunfermline corner that was deflected for another. Dargo had a couple of efforts blocked and towards the midpoint of the half Dunfermline regained their grip of the game.
Williamson`s shot went wide before he created the 77th minute equaliser. It came from one of his trademark runs down the wing. He cut inside, crossed and the ball hit in off a defender.
The hopes of a winner were squashed when O`Kane`s header at a corner went over the top. In fairness both teams tried hard for a second goal and play swung from end to end. Both teams had chances to win but a last ditch tackle from Graham on 90 minutes denied County of a late winner.
