MOTHERWELL 2 DUNFERMLINE 1
This match was played at a very wet Excelsior Stadium. The Pars kicked off and as early as the second minute Jordan Moore was presented with a chance from a Finn Graham cross but he didn`t connect.
A Motherwell free kick then went for a corner when the defence headed over the bar and from the corner Ryan Goodfellow punched clear. A Dunfermline corner in 19th minute was sent over from the left by Ross Millen and Declan O`Kane`s header came back off the crossbar to be cleared. Then four minutes later Ross Drummond sent over a corner from the right that Stephen Husband flicked on at the front post only to see Motherwell keeper turn it behind for another.
In 25 minutes Motherwell had an appeal turned down when O`Kane brought Craig Moore in the box and Dunfermline could count themselves lucky that referee Colin Steven didn`t award it. Two minutes after that a Husband header from another Drummond corner was blocked by a defender.
Motherwell had a good opportunity when Steven Higgins got through on Goodfellow and fortunately he shot wide of target. Husband was assisted by Mercer and McMillan to get in a shot that stung the keeper`s hands and before the break Motherwell`s Jack Leitch sent a shot straight to Goodfellow and a Craig McCall shot at a corner went screaming over the bar.
Half Time: Motherwell 0 Dunfermline 0
Dunfermline took the lead just ten minutes into the second half but not before Faissal El Bakhtaoui had made ground down the right channel but lost the shooting chance to a corner where Husband headed over the bar. HUSBAND found himself on target soon after that. It came from a free kick 30 yards out that the midfielder took and hit past everybody to squirm through Stewart. 0-1.
The Pars lead lasted only eight minutes. The referee deemed that O`Kane fouled Moore on the edge of the box. He pointed to the spot and Jack LEITCH fired it straight down the middle to equalise. 1-1
There was a great chance for Gavin McMillan to restore the lead ten minutes later. Moore picked out Mercer, he jinked into the box and released a shot that hit the left post. The rebound fell to McMillan on the right but he hit the crosbar and went over.
Ten minutes from the end the Fifers were made to pay for not taking their chance. Higgins cross from the left found MOORE on the edge of the box and he hit home the winner.
