Dunfermline got their U20 SPFL League season underway with a home match against St Mirren on a sunny Tuesday evening. The game gave Stephen Husband some match action having sat out the first two cup matches through suspension. There were starts for the on loan pair from Dundee United - Luke Johnston and Jordan Moore. Upfront Moore was partnered with trialst Robert Thomson also from United.
It was not a great start for the Pars going behind in 12 minutes. The home defence was split to let the diminutive figure of Jon SCULLION through to place the ball low past the advancing Michal Hrivnak. The Saints no.10 should have added to his tally just three minutes later but sent his shot from nine yards over the bar.
Dunfermline managed to secure some periods of possession but failed to test Chris Dilo in the visitor`s goal. It was Scullion who continued to create all the problems and his close linking play with Kelly and then Reilly could easily have brought about another goal for St Mirren. In 37 minutes Thomas Reilly let rip with a great attempt from 25 yards that just cleared the crossbar.
Lee Mair collected a yellow card when he blocked Scott Mercer as he went on a strong run down the left channel. Mercer took the free kick but the keeper held that and then a cross soon after from Husband. There was a push before the break with Husband and Moore combining to force a way closer to goal but Moore was thwarted by the defence and the Saintees went in one up.

Dunfermline lost an early goal at the start of the second half when Thomas REILLY rose to head in a fine cross from the left. 0-2 and 49 minutes gone. The two goal advantage lasted only three minutes. Williamson`s cross was driven narrowly wide but then in 52 minutes MOORE was chopped down in the box and ghe grabbed the ball to take the spot kick that gave the keeper no chance. 1-2
On the hour two crosses from the right caused the opposition problems. Firstly a powerful run from Williamson was punctuated with a good delivery that Mair could only turn behind for a corner. Next Mercer popped up on the right to send over a ball that McGregor was up to head away.
Robert Thomson had the ball in the net but the offside flag had been raised, possibly a little unlucky. Mercer had a really good run that took him into the left side of the box, round the defence but his final ball got cut out. There had a marked improvement in the home side since they scored.
Husband carved out a chance for himself as the match entered its final quarter but Dilo held the pile driver from 20 yards albeit at the second take. Dunfermline were to get the equaliser they deserved and the goal came from the penalty spot with Moore converting successfully yet again.
Dunfermline took the lead for the first time in the game when Mercer whipped over a fine ball from the left and THOMSON`s glancing header proved to be the winner. The only disappointment was a straight red card dished out to Stephen Husband for a challenge when Lewis Martin was down injured and Dunfermline were trying to see the ball out of play.
Another good result for the young bucks, its a results driven business so well done to Potts, Dargs and their players.
