U20s v Oakley United
Tuesday, 30th Jul 2013Two goals from Lewis Spence and one each from Fayssal El Bakhtaoui and trialist
John Potter took his under 20 team to Blairwood Park, Oakley on Tuesday night and it was to be another outing for the new short term signing, James Washburn and there was a trialist striker, Robert Thomson who has been released by Dundee United.
Almost immediately Thomson had the ball in the net but was judged to be offside after Scott Mercer and Scott Gray had done all the hard work in the build up. Then the trialist went through on goal but hit his shot over the crossbar. The referee gave a penalty since the 19 year old striker had his heels clipped as be shot..
Lewis Spence took the penalty and stroked the ball into the left side of the net as the keeper went the other way. 1-0 to Dunfermline and just five minutes on the clock.
Dunfermline had the better of the play for a spell but were caught offside while Oakley had two efforts from outside the box one of which hit the left goalpost. Mercer and Fayssal put in crosses that failed to be converted and Thomson put in a strong run that all but penetrated the juniors defence.
In 31 minutes slackness in the Pars defence allowed a Lee Dair cross from the right to be swept in off the far post. 1-1
Fayssal beat the offside trap but pulled his shot across goal and out beyond the right goalpost. Then Thomson sped on to a through ball from Finn Graham, the sub keeper came out but was rounded by the striker who then crossed from the left byeline for Mercer to head down to Spence but his shot went straight to the keeper who had successfully got back in position.
Mercer shot over a cross that the keeper fumbled over the bar but when Mercer sent in the corner from the left it failed to find a Dunfermline head.
Half Time: Oakley United 1 Dunfermline 1
Within three minutes of the restart Gray set up Fayssal but he fired wide. Thomson then ended a strong run by hitting the outside of the left goalpost.
The trialist drew his defender and then fired a shot that deflected off Gray only to be turned behind for a corner on the right. From that 56th minute corner Scott Mercer found Lewis Martin and from his header down FAYSSAL stuck the ball away from close in.
Three minutes later Mercer picked out THOMSON and he finished well from the left side of the box. Another goal followed four minutes on when Dunfermline enjoyed plenty of possession in the final third. Lewis SPENCE was presented with an opportunity and drilled the ball into the left side of the Oakley net from the edge of the box. 4-1
Oakley got a goal back in 73 when the defence had a lapse and sub keeper could not prevent the ball sneaking in at his left hand post. In 79 minutes Spence burst through the Oakley defence but the keeper denied him of his hat trick.
Ryan Williamson had a run and then shot that was deflected away from goal for a corner but despite the junior side tiring fast there were to be no further goals.
