The under 20 s made the short trip down Queensferry Road to meet Rosyth on Thursday night in their second pre season friendly. The Pars fielded 18 year old trialist James Washburn again in the centre of defence and 17 year old Ryan Williamson in what was basically the under 20s side that ended last season.
Rosyth`s side included former Pars youths Steven Mayne, Dean Ogg and Alan McDonough.
Mayne made the first save of the night in 11 minutes and an impressive one when he stopped a well struck effort from Fayssal El Bakhtaoui. At the other end a swift break up the right was punctuated with a good delivery that Ogg headed narrowly over the crossbar.
Next it looked certain that Dunfermline would score but when Williamson cut back from the byeline Mayne pulled off a heroic save to deny Scott Mercer. But from the resultant corner that Mercer sent over from the left, Scott GRAY headed downwards and home for a 22nd minute opener. 0-1.
On the hour good link up between Rosyth`s two front men created an equaliser. Ogg sent McDONOUGH in on the left side of the Pars box and he finished well, though there was a suspicion of offside. 1-1
The Pars lead was restored within 90 seconds when El BAKHTAOUI`s chip from 25 yards could not be reached by Mayne and it was 2-1 to John Potter`s team.
Two minutes before the break the Dunfermline defence failed to clear the ball at a corner from the right and McDONOUGH swept the ball past Goodfellow and the teams were back on level terms.
Half Time: Rosyth 2 Dunfermline 2
In 53 minutes the Rosyth half time sub floated over a ball from deep on the left and it sailed over Goodfellow to drop in the far corner of his net. 3-2.
As the game began to over heat, Lewis Spence sent a 69th minute free kick over the crossbar and then perseverance from PJ Crossan made the Rosyth defence pull off a desperate block. In 74 minutes the visitors conceded a free kick on the edge of their box and the Rosyth no.12 stepped up to clear the wall and hit the net. His second and Rosyth`s fourth of the night.
Five minutes later Gray went on a run up the right, his cross found Jordan Orru on the far left of the box and his cross across the face of goal spelt danger but no one could accept the chance.
James Washburn
On 80 minutes Rosyth took advantage on the counterattack and McDONOUGH notched his hat trick. 5-2. The home side had been a stiff physical experience for the young Pars boys but they were to be given the chance of a consolation when Gavin McMillan (formerly Paterson) was taken down in the box in the first minute of added time. Unfortunately the sub keeper went left and saved Mercer`s spot kick.
