Dunfermline Athletic v CSKA Moscow
Friday, 18th Jan 2013Pars put on a good show in the Mediterranean sun
DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC U20 1 CSKA MOSCOW U21 0
The young Pars started very well and didn`t give the opposition much space or time to settle on the ball writes Head of Youth, Stephen Wright from Cyprus. Allan Smith set the tone early by closing down the centre half and he in turn collided with his own goalkeeper.
Dunfermline were on the front foot for most of the first half, heavily influenced by Shaun Byrne in the middle of the park. We took the lead after 25 minutes with a Blair HENDERSON header at the far post following a great corner from the right from Ross Millen. Allan Smith had a good chance to double our lead after 35 minutes when he cut in from the left however the keeper made a good save.
After a few changes from both teams at half time, CSKA spent a lot of time and possession in our half but we were very disciplined and organised and broke up a lot of their play. We broke well in the second half and had a few more chances to kill off the game, including Scott Gray with a shot after good work from Scott Mercer on the right.
Considering the Pars finished the game with four 16 year olds and one 17 year old against a very good U21 Russian team, this can only bode well for the future of our young players.
