Dunfermline picked up their game in the second half to win this U20 League game against Inverness Caley Thistle on Tuesday afternoon at East End Park. Before the visitors took the lead Shane Sutherland had hit the post and at the other end Alex Whittle had hit a shot over the bar after an impressive run by Ivan D`Angelo up the right.
Michal Hrivnak had tipped over a Polworth free kick conceded by Chris Kane 25 yards out but the Pars went behind in 25 minutes when a Brislen-Hall cross from the right was headed past Hrivnak by Conner PEPPER.
Two minutes later Ross Drummond sent over an inviting cross but there were no takers but at the other end the visitors took another chance when a cross from the right that Martin LAING converted with a header to the keeper`s right.
On the stroke of half time Craig Dargo gathered the ball on half way and put it through for Drummond to burst up the middle. His pass was perfect for Ivan D`ANGELO to slot the ball past Inverness keeper Scott Mathieson.
Half Time: Dunfermline 1 Inverness Caley Thistle 2
The second half started well for Dunfermline with DARGO running on to the ball and taking it into the left side of the opposition box before dinking his shot over the goalkeeper. 2-2. A double substitution was made five minutes later with strikers Allan Smith and Blair Henderson replacing Fayssal El Bakhtaoui and Craig Dargo.
Henderson had a chance on goal but his shot hit the keeper when a lob might have been more effective. Smith too had shots blocked before Kane tested the keeper. Time was running out when Mathieson made another save from Smith and Whittle fired over the bar. The game was in added time when Shaun Byrne was brought down in the box. Ross MILLEN stepped up and converted the penalty, 3-2.
Coach John Potter felt that his team gave away poor goals to go two behind in the first half and allowed Shane Sutherland, a player with nearly 80 first team appearances too much room:-
"We didn`t cope with their centre forward terribly well and didn`t attack the ball enough in our own box but the goal just before half time helped. In the second half we turned it around and could have probably won by more. We had a better tempo and created more chances."
