After a very disappointing result losing 4-1 at St Mirren the Under 20s bounced back with a fine win against a good Motherwell side at East End Park.
Pars Coach John Potter felt that this team played well in the opening 25 minutes of Tuesday night`s match:-
"We knocked the ball about well and looked comfortable. We were disappointed not to get a couple of penalties early on before they came into the game more. Our defence did well and we told them at half time just to go out and do the same in the second half."
That was not to happen after a mix up between centre half Kerr Young and keeper Ryan Goodfellow allowed Robert McHUGH in to stick away a 49th minute opener.
"It was a wee mistake, a bit sloppy but we came back well scoring two good goals - one was five yards offside but we will take it."
Andy Kirk had connected well with a good shot but right at keeper Hollis before in 61 minutes Craig DARGO was fed a fine through ball that he nodded down with his head to then shoot past the keeper from 15 yards. 1-1.
The winner was it transpired came just nine minutes later after sub Finn Graham`s cross in from the right was defended out to Shaun Byrne and his flick into the right side of the box found Alex WHITTLE in loads of space with time to clip the ball past Hollis.
After that there was some resolute defending from the Fifers to keep hold of the three points. Potts again:-
"We saw the game out which is important. At this level of football you have to be able to do that; it is about winning. We made the right decisions in the last ten minutes and it was good. Ryan had a great save from a header and one when the guy was right through. He was disappointed himself with the goal he let in but we told him that he dug us out with two great saves near the end which helped us win the game.
"We ended up with three 16 year old boys on the pitch, it was great for them and great for us. They get to play with the likes of Andy Kirk and Craig Dargo and it is a good learning curve for them. These first team players and Ryan Thomson were true professionals and good for guys like Scott Gray who played in the under 17s on Sunday and Finn Graham down the right, to come on and play with these guys is great."
