Jim Jefferies went back his roots on Sunday taking his U20s to the club where he got his first coaching job in football. The Border League amateurs were managed by Jim back in 1989 for that one season when he took a team struggling at the foot of their league to a respectful fourth place.
From there Jim went on to revive Hawick Royal Albert for twelve games to secure their place in the East of Scotland Premier League winning eight and drawing two. He then moved on to succeed Davie Watkins as manager at Gala Fairydean and subsequently on to manage Berwick Rangers before his higher profile positions at Falkirk, Hearts and Kilmarnock and in England at Bradford.
For the Pars U20s this turned out to be no more than a useful training exercise but for the locals this was much more about the occasion with the official opening their fine new club house as Jefferies following his tradition of taking his club`s to the town that has been his home since moving there from Wallyford in 1972.
There was less than two minutes on the clock when a Jack Bruce run into the left side of the hosts box was cut back for Blair HENDERSON to open the scoring. The tall striker netted again in six minutes after Allan Smith had beaten off several challenges to get in on the right. HENDERSON completed his hattrick in nine and a half minutes, sweeping the ball into the net from the right side of the box.
In 16 minutes SMITH sent a 20 yard screamer into the Lauder net and nine minutes later SMITH slotted another in from the right to make it 5-0.

On the half hour Fayssal BAKHTAOUI broke through the Borders defence and stroked the ball past their helpless keeper. BAKHTAOUI scored again four minutes later after good play from sub Declan O`Kane and Italian Ivan D`Angelo. Shaun BYRNE completed the first half rout with a goal in 37 minutes.
Half Time: Lauder 0 Dunfermline 8
Henderson had been subbed because his achilles injury had flared up again, Allan Smith and Shaun Byrne were withdrawn making way for Grant Munro and Ross Drummond in the second half.
Many chances were missed with O`Kane and Bakhtaoui in particular unlucky but in 75 minutes tenacity by D`ANGELO manufactured the opportunity for him to bulge the net from a difficult angle. The scoring ended with BAKHTAOUI accomplishing his hattrick from a Ross Millen cross just seven minutes from time.
