Dunfermline recorded a good win over Dundee at Dens Park on Tuesday night

DUNDEE 1 DUNFERMLINE 2

Coach John Potter was happy with his team`s first half performance but felt that they could have done better in the second half. That said Dunfermline recorded a good win over Dundee U20s at Dens Park on Tuesday night. He told the website:-

"I thought we had a good first half. We were excellent in passing the ball about, the only criticism I would make is that we could be a wee bit more positive because when we were we looked dangerous. They were dangerous on the break and when we were sloppy at times.

"We got a good goal but I was disappointed with the goal we lost; we could have defended that better. The second half got a bit scrappy and I didn`t think there was much in it. We had a few chances then good play from Craig Dargo won us a corner and we scored."

Potts praised his two young centre backs - Kerr Young and Grant Munro - who were up against experienced striker Steven Milne and Dundee`s new signing from Montrose, Martin Boyle. .

"It was a learning experience for them to be playing against players like that but they stood up to it quite well when they tried to cause them problems. Dundee got into a lot of dangerous positions but I thought we defended well at cross balls and when one on one.

"The midfield moved the ball about well but the game got a bit stretched end to end in the second half. We managed to sort that out; our subs that went on made a wee difference and made us a bit more solid.

"Shaun Byrne had some great touches on the ball and created a lot of chances. He was unlucky with the one that hit the post; he was excellent."

Jim Jefferies, John Yorkston and Dundee gaffer Barry Smith were among the interested spectators who watched this game played in very wet conditions. The first action of note came in seven minutes when Young picked out Ivan D`Angelo on the wing. The Italian got in a cross that Chris Kane shot wide right.  Dargo then sent the ball past the same post after Byrne and D`Angelo had worked the ball well.

In 12 minutes passes between El Bakhtaoui and Dargo set up D`Angelo but he lobbed the goalie and the far post. Three minutes later El Bakhtaoui forced keeper Alex Baird to turn his shot away for a corner. Dunfermline continued to press until in 18 minutes Dundee had their first attempt that was blocked out by Munro.

Michal Hrivnak in the Pars goal saved from Reid before in 24 minutes Dargo was fouled 25 yards out but Kane`s free kick was saved by Baird.  Three minutes later a long clearance bounced over Munro to let Boyle away but the defender chased back to retrieve the situation.  There was another opportunity for the visitors at a corner but Shaun Byrne`s shot from outside the box hit the post. Blair Henderson was next put through by Byrne, one on one against Baird but the keeper dived in to save at the striker`s feet.

The breakthrough that had been threatened eventually materialised in 43 minutes.  D`Angelo, Henderson and Byrne all had their part to play before HENDERSON scored for Dunfermline. Unfortunately a breakaway by Boyle two minutes later earned Dundee an equaliser. Young got in an initial clearance but the ball broke for MILNE to slot the ball home.  To be all square at half time was an unfair reflection on the first half given the ascendancy that the Pars had attained in the opening 45 minutes.

Half Time Dundee 1 Dunfermline 1

Dundee reacted better to the half time talk and within ten minutes Milne had a header but straight at Hrivnak. Seven minutes later Milne got his head to a Reid cross but Hrivnak saved again. Then Byrne and Henderson both tested the Dundee keeper.

Hrivnak saved again from Milne in 64 minutes then after Kane put in a professional foul, earning himself a yellow card, to stop Boyle, Webster hit the crossbar from the resultant free kick.

The winner came seven minutes from time after Dargo`s run forced a corner on the left. When that was delivered Munro got his head to it and the ball sat up for KANE to hit low into the left side of the net.  The final chances came the Pars way and they ran out worthy winners.
