It was a young Pars side that turned out at Gardiners Park for the Wednesday night friendly against junior side Lochgelly Albert. Paul Willis was the only player with first team experience but the two continental trialists from the previous night at Berwick were out again at Lochgelly.
Lochgelly threatened first from a second minute corner but Ryan Goodfellow saved from Gavin Ross, the big Albert captain`s header. In reply the yellow booted trialist had two good attempts narrowly off target then Blair Henderson went wide in seven minutes.
In 12 minutes Willis had a good shot deflected for a corner and from that Shaun Byrne got the break but his low rocketing drive also went for a corner. Next time it was Kerr Young`s diving header that went skimming past the right post.
The home side had a great chance to take the lead in 14 minutes when left back Jack Bruce misdirected a pass back to Goodfellow but when Stevie Brown was presented a chance that he should have netted, unbelievably he sent the ball wide. Five minutes later Willis burst down the right again and released a stinging shot from the edge of the box that brought a fine save out of Rushford.
Another two minutes passed before Willis produced another fantastic effort, pouncing on Henderson`s flick on to perform an overhead kick that was only matched by another great Rushford save. Willis had the ball in the net on 25 minutes from a good pass by Jack Bruce but the linesman`s flag was up for offside.
The opening goal was not far away however and there was justice in as much as it was WILLIS who latched on to a diagonal ball and finished well. 1-0 to the Pars.
There was some good play before the interval mostly involving the no.11 trialist but the teams went in with the Pars just one up.
Half Time: Lochgelly Albert 0 Dunfermline XI 1
Dunfermline continued to dominate into the second half with Willis and no.11 creating problems for the Berts defence. The lead was doubled on the hour when the no.11 trialist teed up the other TRIALIST and he melted the ball past Rushford from ten yards.
Goodfellow was kept in action with a good save from sub Ryan O`Connor but Albert had something better to cheer on 75 minutes when John McDIARMID was supplied on the edge of the box and the Pars challenge was too late to prevent the striker burying the ball into the bottom left.
The trialist had a chance to score another and so did Shaun Byrne from yet another Willis delivery. Pars sub Allan Smith carried the ball to the right byeline to cut back another opportunity for the trialist but he screamed his shot well over the bar.
Dunfermline made plenty chances and credit to the Albert defence they kept them out.
