Five trialists started for Dunfermline. The entire back four and Alan Smith on the right were unsigned players and the presence of Jim Leishman and Stephen Wright meant that there were extra watchful eyes at Rosyth on Thursday night.
Chris Hackland had the first meaningful shot receiving the ball on the left side of the box and being afforded plenty of time to shoot but narrowly over the bar. In 11 minutes Conor Schiavone made a break and created a chance for himself but the keeper parried away his effort.
Two minutes later Steven Leslie took the ball to the byeline on the right and cut back for SMITH to drill a low shot in at the near post. Civil Service reacted and came back hitting the post and causing some mayhem in the Pars box.
Leslie sent a shot narrowly wide left before the home side eventually got their equaliser after a series of corner kicks. One from the left was defended out to the right but the Rosyth no.8 produced a fine shot from an acute angle to chip Steven Mayne and bulge the sidenetting inside the far side of his goal.
Dunfermline came back at their hosts with Schiavone through on the keeper but forced to shoot wide before five minutes from the break SCHIAVONE made it 2-1. Leslie was slipped the ball from Lewis Barr and he had only one thought to shoot. The keeper stopped the shot by knocked the ball down in front of goal and the Pars striker stuck the chance away with the keeper complaining to his defence about mopping up the `second ball`.
Smith made a good interception on a pass out of defence just two minutes later and was unlucky to send his shot from the edge of the box narrowly over the bar.
The second half was a constant stream of substitutions and neither side really tested the keepers unduly. Barr pumped his 65th minute effort at the yellow shirt in front of goal, Scott Mercer`s free kick was next driven wide and Ross Drummond smashed a ball across the face of goal in 72 minutes but it went out wide of the far post. Latterly Blair Henderson got a looping header on to a Drummond cross but there was to be no more goals.
