Sunday, 6th Feb 2011Leslie, Byrne (2) and Henderson secure Hampden win
QUEENS PARK 3 DUNFERMLINE 4
Having been switched from East End Park, the U19s travelled to Lesser Hampden for this SFL Youth League match against Queens Park on Sunday afternoon and returned with three points from a hard fought game on a big pitch.
Despite the seven goal feast there was only one goal on the scoresheet at half time. That was courtesy of Steven LESLIE who rounded keeper Ross Lundy to find the net in 33 minutes.
Dunfermline started the second half well and doubled their lead in 48 minutes. The ball was worked down the right for Shaun BYRNE on the edge of the box and he took a touch before drilling the ball home for 2-0.
On the hour the home side pulled a goal back with a good move down the right that was finished from a cross in from the right. Fifteen minutes later BYRNE volleyed at a corner and sent the ball over the keeper for 3-1.
The Pars lead was extended to 4-1 in 78 minutes after sub Blair Henderson made an instant impact. He won a header on as clearance from Aaron Sommerville, Leslie put his defender under pressure and HENDERSON produced a good finish from 25 yards.
Newcastle supporters might have been walking out by now but the home support stayed to the bitter end and saw two goals scored by their side in the final seven minutes. In 85 minutes it was a soft goal from a long kick out from Lundy that made it 4-2 and in the second minute of added time added another at a corner kick.
