Dunfermline kicked off this Youth League game at East End Park on Sunday lunchtime attacking the goal at the Cowdenbeath end and despite early efforts from a John MacDonald cross and from Steven Leslie, it was the visitors who struck with an early goal, It came in four minutes with County`s first attack of the game. Tony Dingwall broke into the right side of the Pars box to blast a good effort on target. Ryan Goodfellow pulled off a fine save but Ross NAISMITH reacted faster than the Pars defence to slot home.
Leslie powered an eighth minute shot from 16 yards but the keeper held and next a Connor Schiavone corner was met by Kerr Young but his header was cleared off the line at the far post. The equaliser took until 19th minute to come. MacDonald put through LESLIE who had avoided being offside and netted with one of his typical acute angle goals from 14 yards out.
Leslie and MacDonald pinged balls through the County six yard box but it was Moncrieff`s ball to Leslie then slipped to Aaron SCOTT that put the Pars ahead in 24 minutes. The Pars captain driving the lay off low into the bottom left of the visitors` goal.
The Pars increased their lead on the half hour when Shaun Byrne and Connor Schiavone combined to release LESLIE on the right and he made no mistake from just inside the penalty area. Byrne had a great effort himself five minutes later from the edge of the box rocketing the ball narrowly over the crossbar from 20 yards.
Schiavone sent an angled shot outside the left post and Ross County replied with a strong run from full back Gordon Finlayson but Goodfellow held his cross from the byeline.
Half Time: Dunfermline 3 Ross County 1
The visitors came out with a bit of fight determined that the many hours spent on the A9 were not going to be for nothing. Kyle MacDonald was wide of target and then Calum MacDonald made Goodfellow save. But at the other end their keeper did well to deny Leslie in 57 minutes after Byrne had laid off an inviting pass.
Schiavone`s bullet of a shot from 25 yards was deflected over his crossbar by McCarthy and the keeper then held Young`s shot from Schiavone`s corner. Play continued towards McCarthy with Schiavone touching the ball for MacDonald to sweep narrowly wide left.
Leslie came close to completing his hat-trick when his header on Schiavone`s 68th minute corner came back off the crosssbar. At the other end Martin solidly cleared a Dingwall ball across the face of goal and Schiavone took play back upfield with MacDonald firing through a congested penalty box for McCarthy to hold.
The visitors committed their final two subs with seventeen minutes remaining, Dingwall and Naismith going off and Hutchinson and another Ross coming on. Strange connections in those Staggies names.
Dunfermline continued to push for another goal and the visiting keeper pulled off another great save after MacDonald had teed one up for Leslie. MacDonald pulled the parried save back for Schiavone but his screamer just cleared the horizontal.
The Ross County defence was put under intense pressure for the final fifteen minutes but blocked almost everything that the Fifers could hit at them. McCarthy tipped over the bar an excellent shot from 25 yards by Scott and the scoreline was not to change. Nevertheless it was a good Pars performance against opposition who lay just below them in the league.
