U19s v Clyde
Sunday, 14th Nov 2010A Jordan White hat-trick of headers secured the points for Dunfermline U19s at Kinross.
DUNFERMLINE 3 CLYDE 1
Coach Hamish French was forced to make one change to the side knocked out of the SFA Youth Cup in extra time by Falkirk the previous Monday night. Goalkeeper Aaron Sommerville was carrying a groin strain so Ryan Goodfellow was between the sticks. Jordan White continued in the U19s and enjoyed his day scoring all three goals albeit he might have had five.Clyde put up a good contest but really it was the home side who always looked the most likely to succeed. The Bully Wee keeper Barry McCue was called upon to make the first serious save of the game after just five minutes. A John MacDonald cross from the right was returned by Conor Schiavone through Shaun Byrne for MacDonald to drill a well struck low drive at the keeper who held at the second attempt.
Dunfermline forced the first corner of the afternoon in ten minutes but Schiavone`s cross evaded the challenges of both White and Young. Then when Paul Mulholland cut down Steven Leslie, Shaun Byrne floated the free kick into the Clyde box and Kerr Young`s header was deflected behind for another corner.
McCue was by far the busier keeper, holding a Schiavone shot on 15 minutes and then turning a MacDonald effort around his left hand post. Clyde served notice of their presence when Chris Ferguson burst into the right side of the Pars box to cut back a good ball that Craig Rankin just missed with a header attempt.
Then in 24 minutes a sweet move involving McWhirter, MacDonald, Leslie and Byrne led to Leslie shooting at the keeper. Two minutes later White headed a Schiavone cross wide right but then in 27 minutes Byrne placed the ball to the right for MacDonald to swing over a ball that WHITE headed home to put Dunfermline into a well earned lead.
That lead didn`t last two minutes. Ferguson again provided the fodder for RANKIN and he smashed home the delivery to make it all square again. Back in front of the Clyde goal, McWhirter provided a good cross for White but the tall striker headed narrowly beyond the left goalpost. Just on the stroke of half time Leslie made a break and sent White through on goal but there was a let off for Clyde as the strikers shot rolled wide right.
Half Time: Dunfermline 1 Clyde 1
Schiavone forced the first save of the second half when he fired a McWhirter cross into the keeper`s arms in 56 minutes. Then he found the keeper again seven minutes later after White and Byrne had made the chance.
In 65 minutes Kerr Young was yellow carded for a challenge on the Dunfermline right and the free kick was deflected for a corner and then that was well defended with an element of frenetic actions.
Dunfermline then took the lead again on 69 minutes. McWhirter`s cross from the right travelled over to Schiavone on the left side of the Clyde box and his return was headed home by WHITE at the far post. The goal calmed the Pars down and they created more goalscoring opportunities with Aaron Scott`s 30 yard effort touched on to the crossbar and over. White came close to converting another MacDonald cross and then he headed over a Leslie cross.
Ryan Goodfellow held a drive from Rankin and it was Athletic who were to score again. Phenomenal persistence by Schiavone on the left eventually created the space for a cross that was spot on for WHITE to complete his hat-trick of headers.
After that there were other chances for Dunfermline but White was caught offside after a soaring run by MacDonald penetrated the Clyde defence. White headed a good chance into McCue`s hands and Schiavone sent a header over the bar. After three minutes of added time the match ended - a very cold bench and crowd of interested parents were pleased to head off for a heat.
