U19s v Partick Thistle
Saturday, 2nd Oct 2010Steven Leslie nets winner two minutes from time.
DUNFERMLINE 2 PARTICK THISTLE 1
The fixture was reversed and instead of playing away this U19 SFL League match was played at Fleet Ground on Sunday lunchtime. The first half was very even with both defences playing very well. Pars keeper Ryan Goodfellow had two or three good saves while at the other end there were chances as well.
Dunfermline found it hard to involve their wing men - John MacDonald and Chris Hackland. When Chris got going he certainly proved difficult to deal with, so much so that his marker Lance Pearce was yellow carded.
Coach Hamish French had warned his players before the game about the confidence that West of Scotland sides bring with them but the Pars matched that in a first half that produced some good entertaining football.
The goals were reserved for the second half. Thistle`s Kieran Burns had the chance after good play down the right but shot way over Goodfellow`s crossbar. Sean Fraser chested the ball down in a good position but failed to finish. Steven Leslie created an opening for MacDonald in 61 minutes but the shot was wide right.
Five minutes later the Dunfermline defence cleared to Conor Schiavone. He picked out LESLIE on the left side of the box and he cracked his shot past Shepherd to net the opener. Both sides committed subs but from the kick off Mark BURRIDGE broke through the Pars defence to slip the ball past Goodfellow for a fast response.
In 71 minutes there was a scramble in the Partick goalmouth with Schiavone possibly best placed to capitalise but the defence survived. The Fifers pushed for a winner with MacDonald heading at Shepherd and Schivone penalised when the Partick keeper dropped MacDonald`s cross. Schiavone had an effort that was saved when Leslie and MacDonald may have proved better options.
Blair McWhirter supplied the next shooting chance with a cross that got no takers but in 80th minute Fraser`s netbound shot was blocked by McWhirter. The winner came with just two minutes of regulation time remaining. From a Thistle corner the ball was passed out to Aaron Scott, he travelled upfield with the ball before releasing MacDonald on the right. MacDonald`s low cross was met by Leslie but his attempt was blocked on the line. LESLIE managed to recover to turn the ball into the net between the defender and goalkeeper.
