Jordan White and Ryan Thomson came into the U19s side for this match at Glebe Park. The Pars made the best of the strong wind that was not being deflected by the Brechin hedge. Playing down the hill it was all Dunfermline in the opening minutes and it was no surprise after Blair McWhirter`s throw in was headed down by White that John MacDONALD volleyed home from 12 yards in 12 minutes.
Four minutes later Kerr Young picked out Steven Leslie but his shot was held at the second attempt by keeper Kieran Findlater. The Pars continued to keep play in front of the home goal with numerous corners and a Thomson free kick that was deflected behind.
White had a good effort from 30 yards that hit the back of a defender and hit the crossbar in 24 minutes but he only had to wait another two minutes before getting on the scoresheet. The Pars second goal came from a Leslie cross in from the left that WHITE turned in from close quarters.
WHITE made it two 55 seconds later after Schiavone and Leslie made the break down the left to deliver the ball to the feet of the 18 year old striker at the near post. He coolly dragged the ball away from the keeper and stuck it in the net to make it 3-0.
Brechin were denied a penalty when McWhirter seemed to spill Gordon Norrie but that apart it was all Dunfermline.Thomson, Schiavone and Byrne all had good attempts before in 43 minutes White was denied a first half hat-trick after drawing the keeper only to see a defender clear his shot off the line. Before the break Byrne had a good 30 yard strike saved by Findlater and Leslie was blown up for offside.
Half Time: Brechin City 0 Dunfermline 3
The second half started where the first had left off and in 54 minutes the visitors accepted a very soft goal. Ross Drummond crossed from the left and maybe deceived by the strong wind the keeper just left the ball for WHITE to turn in. 4-0.
The wind did spoil the game especially as Dunfermline were playing into it but in 70 minutes a MacDonald cross was nodded down by White for Thomson to try a nice overhead effort that just failed to find the target. Subs Chris Hackland, Jed Frantcz and Fraser Moncrieff were all involved with Hackland in particular making an impact with strong runs and useful balls into the six yard box.
Frantcz headed a corner wide right before White burst through into the box and squared for Thomson but he wasn`t allowed a good connection and he fired wide left. Moncrieff sent over a 81st minute corner from the left only for Young to see his header cleared off the line at the right goalpost.
Ryan Goodfellow was called upon to save as Brechin sub Scott Donald broke in on the left side of the Dunfermline box and before the end his counterpart saved from Hackland and Moncrieff had a pop at goal that went narrowly over the top.
