Dunfermline had a chance early on when John MacDonald cut in from the left to set up Steven Leslie with a shot but the St Johnstone keeper pulled off a good save. The home side then got a grip on the game and for a spell looked the much more likely to score.
A free header from a corner was headed over Goodfellow`s crossbar in 16 minutes and a minute later another headed chance was stuck behind for a corner. The Pars then took advantage of a tangle in the home defence to take the lead midway through the first half. Chris Hackland sent the ball in from the right, Blair Henderson moved it on a MacDONALD was left with a tap in.
In 25 minutes Leslie broke through on goal but was blown up for offside and next minute another melee in front of the St Johnstone goal was cleared. A St Johnstone corner eight minutes later brought a good save out of Goodfellow but the Pars countered with Blair McWhirter advancing up the right, exchange passes with MacDonald and then set up Leslie for an overhead kick that just fell wide.
Dunfermline kept up the pressure and Leslie was unlucky again after MacDonald had won a loose ball in midfield. Then two minutes before the turnaround Henderson did the hard work to win the ball in midfield and deliver a ball for LESLIE that he stuck away
Half Time: St Johnstone 0 Dunfermline 2
Just three minutes into the second half the half time subs created and finished to increase the visitor`s lead. Fraser Moncrieff sent McWhirter up the right and his cross was put away at the second attempt by Andy WERNER.
Pars changed keeper`s at half time as well and the newly introduced Aaron Sommerville was kept deployed with headed efforts and crosses but nothing to really test him. Dunfermline too had some shots but it wasn`t until the final five minutes that the scoresheet was seriously threatened again.
A Grant Munro header was saved by the St Johnstone keeper and the home side had a chance which was cleared off the line in 89 minutes by McWhirter and the final chance from another corner was despatched over the bar.
