DUNFERMLINE 4 MONTROSE 3
The U19s had already achieved second place in their SFL League before they finished off their campaign with a 4-3 win over Montrose at the Fleet Ground on Sunday lunchtime. The visitors created the early chances with Pars keeper Craig Bald being forced to make a save within 11 seconds of the kick off. Their centre Andy Anderson sent a long range effort wide after ten minutes before the Pars took control of the first half.
Rees Smith`s cross was turned behind for a corner from under his bar by Timmy Capstick before Steven Leslie powered a 13th minute shot from the left on to the crossbar after he capitalised on a poor clearance by Capstick. Three minutes later Leslie was hauled down in the box and a penalty was awarded. Smith stepped up but Capstick went the right way to save the Pars captain`s attempt.
Dunfermline pressed for the opener with John MacDonald creating mayhem down the right flank. Blair McWhirter supplied the ball that provided Lewis Turner with a 28th minute chance but the tug on him 6 yards out was not spotted by the referee. Eventually one of MacDonald`s many deliveries was to prove successful. The 33rd minute opener resulted from a fine ball in from the right that LESLIE headed past Capstick from six yards.
Capstick`s dislike of kicking gave the Pars the opportunity to double their lead. A poor kick out in 39 minutes was collected by Stefan Scougall and he threaded the ball left for LESLIE to slot in from the 18 yard line.
Montrose snatched a goal back in the next minute when Martin BOYLE found the net with a long range shot. Leslie was through on goal in 44 minute but Capstick won that contest while at the other end McWhirter survived a penalty appeal when it was deemed he couldn`t have got out of the way of the rising ball.
Half Time: Dunfermline 2 Montrose 1
Dunfermline continued on the offensive after the break with Danny Anderson forced to turn the ball over his own crossbar, Leslie caught offside after nice work from Turner and Scott before in 54 minutes LESLIE completed his hat trick after Turner had sent Smith to the left corner flag for a killer cross that made it 3-1.
A penalty mid way through the second half allowed Montrose to narrow the margin to one after Andy ANDERSON sent the spot kick past sub keeper Danny Gunn. TURNER re-established the two goal margin in 70 minutes with a low drive from 27 yards.
The end result was made less secure when Peter McEVOY headed home from a corner five minutes later and despite Leslie, Turner and Munro with a header threatening the Montrose goal it was to end with Dunfermline getting the better of the seven goals.
