U19s v Clyde
Friday, 9th Apr 2010SFL U19 League: Pars continue their good form with resounding win at Broadwood
CLYDE 0 DUNFERMLINE 4
Dunfermline ran out comfortable winners at Broadwood on Friday night but the result wasn`t put beyond doubt until the Bully Wee were reduced to ten men for the last quarter of an hour. Chances poured the way of the visitors and had Clyde keeper Jordan Allan not been on top form the lead at the break could be considerable.
In three minutes Stefan Scougall teed up Rees Smith but the Clyde defence closed him out but three more minutes on a Steven Leslie ball in from the left wing was tucked in at the near post by Scott McINTOSH. That then looked like a considerable achievement as the Clyde keeper made a series of great saves.
Scougall produced a fine defence splitting in 16 minutes but when through McIntosh failed to beat the advancing keeper. Pars keeper Craig Bald made a good save from a Clyde free kick and then reacted well to recover to thwart the follow up.
At the other end Leslie set up McIntosh with another chance that Allan again saved. Ten minutes later in 28 minutes Scougall received a Leslie pass that he fired on to the right upright from 20 yards. Leslie was was one on one with Allan next but again the keeper came out on top.
On the half hour Scougall was chopped down 25 yards out and Smith connected well but Allan pulled off a great save to touch the ball over his bar. Play continued towards the Clyde goal and in the final minute of the half Allan denied Smith with another first class save.
Half Time: Clyde 0 Dunfermline 1
In 54 minutes Scougall set up Smith for a cross from deep left but Aaron Scott could only win a corner as he delayed his execution. Allan then saved from Leslie before Bald had to pull off a good save from the Clyde centre forward. With still the smallest possible lead concern grew that with Clyde rallying that all the missed chances were going to be costly.
Dunfermline chances came more on the counterattack. Pars full back Jamie Birnie stormed into the box as he played a 1-2 off McIntosh but his effort was blasted well wide. In 75 minutes McIntosh provided a fine ball through the Clyde defence that gave Lesle a glorious chance that he stuck over the bar.
Then in the next minute LESLIE took a much more difficult chance slotting the ball home from an angle on the left. The home side had used their two substitutes when another injury reduced them down to ten and the Fifers took full advantage in the closing minutes.
Rees SMITH`s yellow boots dazzled his three challengers as he twisted his way through to the top of the box to release the kind of special finish that was needed to beat Allan. McINTOSH sunk Clyde with a fourth Pars goal in 88 minutes to give the tally that would have been reached quicker had it not been for the earler heroics of Clyde man between the sticks.
