The Under 19s came back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Raith Rovers at the Fleet Ground on Sunday morning but this was a match of few goalmouth incidents where the keepers were not tested enough. It may have been the first day of British Summer time but the cold wind never leaves the Fleet Ground. Accordingly the conditions and the bumpy pitch spoiled the passing play that both teams wanted to play. The home side had the better of the early play with Scougall through one on one with Laidlaw in five minutes but the keeper won the duel. Almost quarter of an hour later Lewis Turner created an opportunity from the first corner of the game and Lee Graham was unfortunate to see his glancing header travel too far wide of the right goalpost.
Conner Schivone shot over the crossbar before Raith, with their backs to the wind, came more into the game. In 32 minutes Graham`s header got held up in the wind and his Raith namesake, Tom, thumped in a shot from distance that slipped through Bald and out for a corner. Three minutes later Jordon McKechnie got a decent header on a Graham cross to provoke Bald into a fine save.
Scougall and Scott created an opening for Schivone but one on one with the keeper he was brushed off the ball as Laidlaw came out sharpish to grab the ball at the striker`s feet.
In 38 minutes however Raith took the lead from a through ball to Tom GRAHAM on the left. The Raith no.9 produced a great individual effort to burst into the box from the left and exploded a shot that gave Bald no chance.
The second half continued in a similar fashion. Scougall was first to shoot in 60 minutes but Laidlaw saved his 25 yard effort. Dunfermline with the wind on their backs, had plenty of possession at this stage and from a Turner corner from the right seven minutes later, a real melee developed with several players trying to convert the ball. When the ball dropped left Harry McGREGOR was well placed to drill in a shot for the equaliser
The Rovers came right back at the Pars with Shaw, McKechnie and Graham all getting involved in the build up before Bald pulled off a great save to deny Drummond in 70 minutes. There were some opportunities for Dunfermline to snatch a winner but McGregor drove the ball into the defensive wall from a free kick and John MacDonald had no luck with a couple runs on the right that took him into shooting positions.
Raith too had chances to win it with Shaw receiving a Graham pass to fire the ball across the face of goal and Bald forced to save from Graham.
Turner`s shot was tipped over the bar by Laidlaw and in the final minute after Schivone had shielded a MacDonald cross, Scott despatched the final chance over the crossbar.
