U19s v Airdrie United
Tuesday, 19th Jan 2010Draw a fair result at Dalgety Bay
DUNFERMLINE 1 AIRDRIE UNITED 1
The Under 19s resumed their season after a six week break at Dalgety Bay on Sunday. Visitors Airdrie had a large part of the first half but after falling behind in 64 minutes fought back to earn a draw just four minutes from time.Airdrie dominated the opening half hour and should really have capitalised on all their possession and territorial advantage. As early as the sixth minute David Cane was unlucky to head over from a Jonny Fisher corner, then both sides were forced into making substitutions after Lee Graham and Ryan Donnelly clashed heads. Trialist Luke Sinclair immediately came on for Airdrie but Lee lasted ten minutes during which time he came close to getting on the end of a cross swept in from the right by John MacDonald at a quickly taken free kick, but he could not quite get to it.
Aiden Malone was yellow carded in 22 minutes for diving when it did look to those on the sidelines that he had been taken out by Ryan Thomson. Two minutes later Patrick McCabe was on the end of a free kick over from the right but sent his effort over the bar.
The home side began to see more of the ball and when Airdrie keeper Andy Collier made a hash of a clearance in 32 minutes Lewis Turner shot narrowly wide. Aaron Scott then forced Collier to turn his shot around the post and next a move from Scott to MacDonald set up Ryan Thomson for a shot that the keeper held.
In 36 minutes Collier pulled off a great save to concede a corner after Steven Leslie headed on target from another MacDonald cross. From Turner`s corner Stewart Thomson headed back across goal and Scott McIntosh was desperately unlucky not to head home at the left goalpost. Sub Dean Elder shot at the keeper two minutes later and Leslie tried a scissors kick.
Airdrie reminded the Pars defence of their presence in 43 minutes and Aiden Malone slipped the ball right for the Trialist only for Ryan Thomson to make a telling tackle. Collier held a Rees Smith shot in the second minute of time added on at the end of the first half before Trialist headed over a good chance at another Airdrie corner on the left.
Half Time: Dunfermline 0 Airdrie United 0
The second half took nine minutes to find a shot and that was wide from Malone. Leslie lined up Turner for a shot but that one was touched around the post by Collier then in 62 a Leslie header was parried for a chance for Elder and Scott but in the end it was MacDonald who released the shot.
Dunfermline continued their offensive on goal with Elder unluckily choosing to use his feet rather than his head as the ball came over from the right yet again. No worries however for failing to take the chances as John MACDONALD rocketed in a beaut of a 30 yarder in 64th minute.
Jimmy Boyle`s side restricted Dunfermline`s attacks after that despite the fresh legs of Schivone coming on for McIntosh. Smith had a good clearance from a Drew Ramsay effort in 85 minutes then next minute Bald scrambled across his goal line to keep out a cross cum shot in from the left. The resultant corner yielded the equaliser. Trialist no.14 sent over the ball from the right and TRIALIST no.7 Michael Hutchison headed in at the far post.
