U19s v Annan Athletic
Sunday, 27th Sep 2009Hamish French`s side travelled back up the M74 with one of their most emphatic league results ever.
ANNAN ATHLETIC 0 DUNFERMLINE 7
The U19s played Annan Athletic on Sunday in a league match brought forward from February and travelled back up the M74 with one of their most emphatic league results ever. Jordan White was missing with flu, Lewis Turner is still recovering from a collar bone injury and keeper Danny Gunn had a back injury.
The Pars started well down the hill at Galabank with a period putting pressure on their opponents. John MacDonald provided the cross for Ryan THOMSON to put the Fifers 1-0 up after just nine minutes.
Annan battled away and forced Craig Bald to pull off a fine save to retain the lead but in 17 minutes Thomson met a cross from the right, his header was saved but Stefan SCOUGALL finished off well to double the advantage.
Two minutes later a good move down the right involving both Blair McWhirter and John MacDonald allowed the former to test the keeper but THOMSON was on hand to knock the ball home for the visitors third.
The Pars continued to play well although Annan did manage to force a couple of corners. A goal back before half time might have made a game of it but instead just before the break Aaron Scott`s pass to Chris LENNON put the result beyond any doubt as the striker slotted the ball past the Annan keeper.
Half Time: Annan 0 Dunfermline 4
Nothing changed much for the second half with Steven LESLIE controlling a Lennon ball in from the left to finish well just three minutes after the restart.
Understandably the contest was finished and there was a bit of a lull during which Leslie hit the post and both Scougall and Lennon had shots well saved but Dunfermline finished in style scoring another two goals in the final four minutes.
Lennon sent McWhirter on the overlap down the right in 86 minutes and the full back found MACDONALD on the edge of the box to deliver goal number six. Then in 89 minutes MacDonald got to the byeline on the right to cross for LESLIE to sidefoot home at the near post.
