U19s v Livingston
Monday, 11th May 2009Livingston`s lions give young Pars a mauling
DUNFERMLINE 0 LIVINGSTON 6
The final U19 match of the season - a League Cup tie against Livingston - was played at East End Park on Monday night. The Pars kicked off into the evening sun but Livingston soon had the upperhand and duly opened the scoring in 11 minutes. Joe Magee sent the ball into the right side of the Pars box for Kyle JACOBS to draw the keeper and slip the ball in.After that the visitors enjoyed a fair amount of the possession although John MacDonald got in a useful shot at Craig McDowell. Sean Kerr should probably have increased the lead in 26th minute but having got through the defence for a shot at goal hammered his effort wide left.
Jordan White had a header wide in 33 minutes and then Chris Lennon made a strong run up his left wing but shot wide left from ten yards. Dunfermline were caught by a swift Livi break just four minutes from half time. This time Magee released the ball into the left channel to put KERR in on the keeper and this time he made no mistake and the Pars were two down.
In the final minute of the half Chris Lennon required treatment from the physio and when the ball was passed back to McDowell to restart the game he booted the ball up the park for KERR to latch on to and net. Simple but very effective.
Half Time: Dunfermline 0 Livingston 3
Dunfermline lost Lee Graham at half time due to injury. Blair McWhirter came on at right back with Steven Lynch moving to cenral defence. The second period was less than three minutes old when a Sheldon Jacobs ball over from the left was converted by Kyle Jacobs and really the Pars side was having no joy whatsoever in break down Livingston.
In 59 minutes Kyle Jacobs got around Rees Smith to cut back from the right byeline to the awaiting KERR and he slotted in from 8 yards. A mix up in defence let KERR through again to make it six in 64minutes. Devon Jacobs got a free header on a 76th minute free kick delivered in from the right but thankfully directed it wide right.
The result was no real surprise given the previous games against Livi this season. Their full time squad of players nearing the end of their eligibility at this level plus a couple of over age players were too strong for a Dunfermline side fielding many still eligible for under 17s. Maybe next season things could be significantly different.
