ST JOHNSTONE 1 DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC 0
Tuesday 9th December 2008, Kick 1.30pm
An Andy Jackson goal gave Saints their first win of the Reserve League Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over the Pars. Last season`s top scorer netted after only eight minutes when he back heeled the ball into the net after a Gavin Swankie corner kick had fallen to him two yards from goal.
Just after going behind the Fifers had a good penalty appeal turned down. Scott Muirhead swung over a cross that Jim McIntyre chested down for a Nick Phinn effort but it was wide. Macca had the ball in the net five minutes later in 17th minute but he was adjudged to have been offside. Next Burke was unfortunate to pull a Holmes cross wide of target.
Visiting keeper Callum Reidford then denied Peter MacDonald and Swankie before half-time but injured himself making the first of those saves. Reidford didn`t reappear for the second half and without a keeper on the bench 16 year old striker Jordan White donned the gloves.
63rd minute - one that the woodwork kept out
Saints couldn`t find a way past White in the second half although Kevin Moon twice struck the woodwork. Towards the end Phinn and Thomson had attempts that cleared the bar and in the final minute McIntyre switched a Harry McGregor free kick to Thomson but yet again Zander Clark was not tested as the ball sailed over the top.
