Dunfermline took only five minutes to go ahead in this SFL Reserve League Cup match against their local rivals. The home side dominated from the kick off. There was little surprise when Jim McINTYRE headed home from 8 yards after Steven Bell had sent the ball out to the right for Greg Ross to deliver the cross for the goal.
Dunfermline`s opening goal in just fifth minute
Four minutes later Iain Williamson headed a Scott McBride cross narrowly over the crossbar. In 14 minutes Scott Muirhead fed the ball left to McIntyre and when he delivered the cross into the six yard box it was defended only as far as McBride who took a touch to tee up the shot but still keeper Alan Fleming held diving to his left.
Next from all of 30 yards McIntyre gave Fleming a severe test making the green shirted stopper reach to his top right to touch the ball over. Dunfermline were well on top and increased their lead midway through the half when Paul WILLIS headed in a quality ball from comeback boy, Graeme Holmes.
Paul Willis headed in number two
Cowden survived a near miss in 34 when a fine pass from Bell picked out Willis on the right and his drive through the box was just too fierce for Wiliamson to turn in. The young striker was presented with another good opportunity just before half time; yet another good pass from Bell this time but Williamson only found the sidenetting.
Half Time: Dunfermline 2 Cowdenbeath 0
Ten minutes into the second half John Gemmell staved off challenges inside the Pars box to lay the ball back for Jay Stein who shot on target but Muirhead booted the danger away. Just as Cowden threatened to come more into the game Dunfermline struck again in 62nd minute.
The Manager`s 63 minutes brought him one goal
A Willis corner from the left was headed back across goal by Scott Thomson and Steven BELL volleyed the ball into the net from six yards. Williamson was out of luck four minutes later, meeting a Muirhead free kick swung in from the left but Fleming did really well to turn the ball behind.

The Pars came close to extending the margin in the final ten minutes. McBride hit the crossbar from a free kick and then Fleming came out to bravely save at the feet of Jordan White as he burst into the box. In added time McBride again tested the keeper and White followed up on the rebound but without time to gather composure, sent his shot wide.
