U19s v Montrose
Sunday, 9th Nov 2008Sunday afternoon brings no goals at Dalgety Bay
DUNFERMLINE 0 MONTROSE 0
This was Dunfermline U19s first game since 17th October and it showed. With home advantage they really should have capitalised on their first half dominance but Montrose keeper Fraser Stark was rarely called upon in any great seriousness. The Pars pegged their visitors back from the start. The first chance transpired from as good break by Lawrie Cannon, feeding Jordan White before Paul Willis was unsuccessful with the shot. Ryan Thomson was next, chesting down a clearance to drive wide from 20 yards in 16 minutes.
Scott McBride then provided two good deliveries from the right; Stuart Dearden sent the first wide right and Lee Graham was on the second but Stark turned the header behind.
Rees Smith`s 25th minute shot was taken by Stark before nice interchanges by Thomson, Willis and White put Willis in for a shot at goal that again Stark held. The home side were demonstrating much more composure on the ball and five minutes from half time when Willis laced a neat ball to White, he was unfairly adjudged to be offside by Referee Raymond White who was operating without linesmen.
Ten minutes into the second half Scott McBride whipped in a free kick from the right but Dearden`s powerful header was off target. After that Montrose manage to prise off their hosts grip of the game. Ryan Stewart`s pop from 20 yards was deflected for a corner and from that Jordan Leyden came close to breaking the deadlock but Dearden stood fast to prevent the goal.
In 68 minutes Leyden had another good crack at goal but this time Pars keeper Craig Bauld had to hold. Both sides committed substitutes but it was until the final push that Dunfermline looked any likelier to take full points.
Willis bent an 81st minute free kick around the defensive wall but over the bar. A clever switch from Thomson to Lennon set up McBride for a shot at goal but the defence blotted that out and two minutes into added time Dearden was allowed to rifle a shot on target but again Stark was the equal of it.
