Reserves v Ross County
Monday, 20th Oct 2008Young Dunfermline side do well to lose by the only goal of the match to much more experienced opponents
ROSS COUNTY 1 DUNFERMLINE 0
It was a young Dunfermline side that travelled to Victoria Park Dingwall on Monday afternoon to face a vastly more experienced Ross County reserve team.
The home side started briskly in the blustery conditions but it was the visitors who created the early scares.Best chance however fell to ex Par Scott Morrison but he was wide with his effort.
In 11 minutes Iain Williamson latched on to a through ball and crashed a fine shot against the crossbar. Scott Muirhead headed the ball off the line at a County corner before Williamson broke through again but this time Derek Soutar pulled off a good save.
Muirhead sent over a free kick from the left for the Pars but Stuart Dearden narrowly failed to get contact. The Highlanders who had the greater of the possession in the opening 45, might have changed around with a lead but their final effort of the half hit the upright.
The woodwork denied Dunfermline on the restart with 16 year old Jordan White hitting the bar.Callum Reidford in the Pars goal was kept involved with good saves mainly from long range but he too had to rely on the post to keep the game goalless.
Ross County found a winning goal in 71 minutes, feeding the ball out left for Stuart GOLABEK to run in on goal and fire low under Reidford from 12 yards.
Dunfermline`s best effort to get back on level terms came five minutes from time when Lee Graham made a surging run from his own half to supply sub Chris Lennon with a chance but his shot from 12 yards was well saved by Soutar.
Just on the final whistle the hosts looked like notching another goal but a well timed tackle by Dearden denied a clear goalscoring opportunity.
