U19s v Dumbarton
Sunday, 31st Aug 2008Two goals for Scott McBride and three points for U19s.
DUNFERMLINE 2 DUMBARTON 0
A good workmanlike performance won the Fifers the points in this SFL Youth League match at Dalgety Bay but they did not put the result out of doubt until 92nd minute. The home side went in front in eight minute when Lewis Turner`s ball in from the right was headed on by Jordan White allowing Scott McBRIDE in on the keeper. Michael White in the Dumbarton goal pushed the first shot up but McBride nipped in to poke the ball home from three yards.

The home side should possibly have taken more of their first half chances. White was wide right and then Smith wide left. On 20 minutes slackness in the visitors midfield presented McBride with the opportunity to break down the left but White was unlucky to head the cross over the bar.
Two minutes later McBride fed White with a pass he took to the byeline and when the tall striker cut the ball back Chris Lennon`s header was off target.
Dumbarton were a big, strong and physical side and they came back into the game towards half time. Striker Kevin Brannan hit the crossbar and then after linking well with the marauding left back, McKillen laid the ball back for Arnott to shoot wide. Lennon and White looked to have sprung the Dumbarton defence in 38 minutes but the final cutback was too strong.
Before the break Arnott made a strong run ending with a shot that Bauld deflected on to his right hand post. The first chance of the second 45 saw Lee Graham head a free kick over the bar before Dunfermline caused their own problems choosing long balls when they should have gone short and vice versa.
The visitors had territorial advantage for a large part of the second half but Dunfermline defended well and didn`t give their opponents too many opportunities. Dumbarton too, took the wrong options and on occasions were too greedy on the ball. McBride fired a rare second half chance over the bar from 25 yards out and in 89 minutes Ryan Thomson benefited from a passing move from Turner and Cannon that let him shoot on target.
White turned that one behind for a corner as Dunfermline finished with a flurry. Graham headed on to the crossbar and Connor Schivone was unlucky with his follow up at the far post being blocked.
With the game in added time McBride carried the ball up the left before crossing to Schivone. The central defenders squeezed the ball away from the sub but only for McBRIDE to put away with a right footed strike from 15 yards.
