U19s v Elgin City
Sunday, 10th Aug 2008U19s frame success as White clicks with Cannon
ELGIN CITY 1 DUNFERMLINE 3
After the lengthy journey north to Borough Briggs Hamish French was delighted with the way his young side started. Impressive linking play between the strikers meant Lawrie Cannon got to the byeline to cut back for Jordan WHITE to convert after just three minutes.
The Pars continued to press and five minutes later Jed Hiroz looked to have put Cannon in for the second but as he homed in on goal the City keeper pulled off a fine save.
Then with just 12 minutes on the clock Rees Smith and Harry McGregor carved open the defence for the latter to tee up CANNON with a chance that he ably took from 10 yards out. Three minutes later a strong run from midfield into the opposition box by Ryan Thomson set up CANNON for his second and he duly chipped over the keeper to find the far corner of the net.
Cannon hit the post to be denied his hat trick as the first quarter of the game was completed. Instead it was Elgin who scored taking advantage of some slack stuff from the Fifers.
Elgin City tried hard from the kick off in the second half and although they forced corners, Dunfermline defended well. A combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping ensured that there was no further scoring. The Pars best chance of the half came in 67 minutes but White sent Smith`s cross past the post.
