U19s v Elgin City
Sunday, 17th Feb 2008Goals rain in as U19s extend their winning run to four matches.
DUNFERMLINE 6 ELGIN CITY 1
It was a case of heads you win for the Dunfermline Under 19s in their SFL League match against Elgin City played at Dalgety Bay on Sunday afternoon. Both Paul Willis and Jason Hunter had shots that narrowly missed the target before in ninth minute central defender Lee GRAHAM headed in the opener from a Willis corner.
Hunter had an effort tipped over the bar by keeper Chris Allen and Sandy Nairn a shot held by Allen before Gary MacLachlan`s persistence on the left delivered a Willis header that was just inches high.
It was all Dunfermline and more chances saw MacLachlan hit the ball over the crossbar, Willis have his 25 yard free kick tipped around the post and Lawrie Cannon closed out after a marauding run by Stuart Dearden had forced another good opportunity.
Before the break Willis tested the City keeper and after taking the sting out of the shot, he gathered the ball as it was about to cross the line.Nairn teed up Cannon but the shot was hooked wide right and another Willis free kick was only inches too high.
Elgin started the second half much better but Dunfermline scored in 59 minutes with their first attempt of the second 45. GRAHAM headed home a Willis corner and the Pars killed off their visitors with another two goals in three minutes.
From six yards CANNON headed home a Garry Leighton cross before WILLIS headed in on 62 minutes to make it 4-0. Willis created the fifth after evading numerous Elgin tackles to allow HUNTER to stick the ball away with a right footed shot just inside the left post.
Elgin used their final substitute in 66 minutes but within a minute were reduced to ten men with an injury to Graeme Donaldson`s right forearm.
Graham tested Allen with a powerful shot at another Willis corner in 72 minutes then three minutes later sent his header at another Dunfermline corner over the bar.
MacLACHLAN completed the Pars tally with the fifth headed goal out of six when he converted a 76th minute Willis corner. Elgin City`s Scott ROBERTSON grabbed some consolation for the long journey home with an opportunist`s goal three minutes from time.
